You're the best reactor I've watched for this series. The difference is actually quite staggering lol. The amount of people I've seen online and reactions watched that for some reason only thought that umemiya and choji would only be braindead battling is frighteningly a lot lol. Even though it's been quite obvious specially this episode that mindless beating isn't really what choji needed and that umemiya understood that 😅

I agree! A lot of reactors seems to miss the point of some of the scenes and also almost all talk over while important dialogs are being said. But Michael knows how to use pause and talk, so he really don't miss anything. He also got almost all the point of what the show and chars. are trying to convey.

So, your fight ranking is saying that the fights got continually better. I agree! This latest one actually had remarkably little fighting, mostly flashbacks, but you don't notice with the intensity of both. I like that you understood Umemiya just letting Choji vent. Lots of people missing nuances.

Not gonna lie, the moment they started doing flashbacks I immediately knew they were gonna do the most obvious power of friendship talk no jutsu, which left me a bit underwhelmed since I thought that would be the most predictable route. I mean, we JUST did the same thing with Togame so I was hoping they would commit to it being an all out brawl with Umemiya , a pillar of strength fighting for his ideals vs Choji , a battle maniac fighting for his idea of freedom. But it ended up being a therapy session where Umemiya basically doesn't even use much of his power and Choji gets whooped into sense easily. I will agree, the fights got continually better and peaked at Sakura vs Togame+ the first few minutes of Umemiya vs Choji at the end of that episode IMO.

@@missplainjane3905 Indeed, the anime has embellished/added on to the flashbacks a little bit more than what was strictly in the manga. But man did that pay off in an emotional and empathetic storyline. Music killed it too. The music was so good!!!

@@Mukatutu I can understand why you would feel underwhelmed. It’s awesome to see minutes upon minutes of sick fighting scenes. So to not get all that we thought we would get can be a let down. I will say as a manga reader, however, that Wind Breaker chooses its fights and for how long. I only learned of this series when the anime came out. And I initially ignored it because the trailer showed it as a high school delinquent story, or at least as something I thought I would not like. After I did check out the anime thanks to episode 1 clips being posted online I had to go and read the manga. Wind Breaker is very intentional in its writing. And its writing focuses on the characters, Sakura in particular. And this first arc is important as a reflection on what Sakura could have become if he had joined a group like Shishitoren (as it currently is) instead of Furin (also as it currently is). Okay. Long rant there. But what I’m trying to say is that Wind Breaker is not focused on being a fighting story. It’s focused on being a character driven story that uses fights and brawls and the time spent on them wisely. They are informers/portrayals of a person’s characters and emotions (hence “a fight/fist fight is a conversation”) and the conversations had via the fights are catalysts for story progression of both events and characters. I personally love that since I gravitate to even other kinds of stories I don’t usually like if I can connect with its characters enough.

I remember how confused I was when I was reading this chapter, wondering why Umemiya didn't fight Choi... Then it, after some chapters I understood that if Umemiya took Choi seriously , the little punk would be dead... Umemiya is literally the strongest in modern day Furin, both mentally and physically.. My fav character for now, can't wait to see his arc getting animated. Thanx for the reaction man, awesome as always!

glad choji is back to normal i really like that glass metaphor/imagery where choji shattered it all himself ume is amazing, a great leader! i wish we saw more of him fighting but it's clear he didn't want to fight choji as he was right now in the first place, so the fight was more of a therapy session to bring him back to normal. The thing with choji is that umemiya and the rest of bofurin has fought them before, so they know how he actually was before the whole breakdown took place. They held no animosity back when they first fought since it was all a misunderstanding back then and they did have fun. anime viewers see choji as some sort of unknown enemy force but bofurin (outside of the 1st years) would've actually seen shishitoren as an old, possibly friendly acquaintance group with some hot headed guys they had fought with before, but who have broke down into what they were for some unknown reason that bofurin found out during this fight.

Can't recall if you pointed it out at all, but you can see in the flashbacks before he changed and when Umemiya knocks some sense into him, Choji' regains color in his iris and pupil. When before he made the realization and after he changed with Togame, his eyes were empty and didn't have any color.
