Smart move. It becomes addicting. I play a little game, every time I make food or pack a lunch for work and calculate how much I saved and put back in my Roth. How much I took from a restaurant, and those pesky tips for walk up service. Although, we have a clean little Mexican place by my place of employment that still has a $6.99 combo meal with two Tacos, a Quesadilla, rice and beans. I treat myself sometimes.

I just raise my own Grass Fed / Grass Finished Angus Cows . If I need Pork , I'll buy the meat from a farmer ( he sends his pigs to the butcher) and he sells eggs cheaper than the stores. @@MG-Alexandrovich I want to tell you about the local farmer's market I went to. 2 years ago they had a table selling hummus. The best deal then was pay 20 dollars and get 5 portions. Now if you pay 20 dollars you get THREE portions of hummus. One of the stands sells dinner meals to eat there at a picnic table. The CHEAPEST meal is 20 dollars plus tax. I never buy them since jars are more economical but another barometer of prices are those honey sticks. Some years ago it was 5 sticks for a dollar. Now a dollar gets you TWO. Last year a corn dog was 10 dollars and a slightly larger corn dog was 13 dollars. I was not able to see how much more it went up since when I went there the stand had not opened yet. Farmers markets may still be cheaper than restaurants but if you compare them now to how they were a few years ago its pretty depressing.

I work EMS ambulance service in Missouri. Our actual paid billable to customers is less than 30%. Insurance finds a reason to not pay. Large homeless community isn't paying. Those huge bills reflect a broken system trying to recoup somewhere.

Check out Wake Co EMS in NC. They sell a subscription for $60/per year for the entire household, if you have insurance. For $60 they will accept the insurance company payment as paid in full. It's more than making up for " lost profit" to pay for uninsured. Yes, folks you pay your taxes, they put the fire out for free, but it's $600 for EMS to the emergency room. PS The nursing homes are a goldmine.

I work in healthcare as a hospital claims analyst it’s actually the insurance companies that’s making all the money not the hospitals or doctors. The hospitals only get a percentage of what’s billed to the insurance company if that. Hospitals are actually starting to sue major insurance companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield for refusing to pay claims with no valid reasons. We have to repeatedly appeal and refer claims to our legal department because insurances don’t want to pay

there are lots of valid reasons claims are denied by insurance, no prior authorization, not medically necessary procedure/not standard practice per agreed upon medical protocols , not in network, incorrect info on the claim, patient wasn't actually covered during that time period. Insurance cannot just deny a claim because they don't feel like paying. They always must provide a reason for denial. And there must always be an appeal process.

Bc bs isn’t your problem Medicare is I’ve seen some of my moms statements Providers bill Medicare literally 29000 for multiple bs fantasy her drs order…. Medicare pays 391$, rest is “adjusted”, Medicaid would have paid 121 If I had same tests bc/bs pays 9000, 8000 to my family deductible But a few private plans pay 12000 plus the deductable so they bill 29000 And drs and hospitals are allowed to not participate with Medicaid Medicare or bc/bs or any one else.., then the checks go direct to patients , good luck collecting that And that is why doctors hospitals agreed to participate and don’t get 100% of the bill, I’m sure you’ve seen the statement are allowance is

As a physician- to weigh in on the hospitals going bankrupt portion- the bill often comes super high but most of the bill is 'waived' by the insurance- they pay a small portion of it but the rest gets waived- they just dont use that term. It essentially is a game between hospitals and insurers- hospitals know insurers might pay a bit more if the price is higher so they have charged more and more- but none of that price actually reflects the cost of what is being charged. EKGs do not cost 300 dollars to do or read. Prednisone is pennies to make, not 50 dollars per dose, etc. Insurance goes along with it and pay a bit more, because when patients get the bills, they see the total and think 'thank god i have insurance.' And thus patients continue to pay increasingly higher premiums not knowing between the premiums and copays they actually are more than covering the 'cost' of the care. It also has allowed insurers to continue increasing their revenue/profit margins YOY in perpetuity . But this cycle finally reaching a tipping point in these last few years- many patients are now 'underinsured' and cannot afford the premiums and the rising copays/deductibles- and they simply do not pay their hospital bills. This is leading to hospitals that cannot afford to chase down payments from patients at high volumes declaring bankruptcy and or going out of business. Of course these are often critical access hospitals for the most vulnerable populations because it is the poorest people who cannot afford their bills

My wife was experiencing pain in her breasts and went to the doctor. They did an ultrasound on her breast for 5 minutes and told her it was inconclusive and likely benign. Her insurance changed and she called for a quote, they told her that would have been 900 dollars… for less than 10 minutes to say we don’t know and not give her a solution to her pain.

WTF is going on guys!? In Russia I can go to hospital when ever I need, emergency or no emergency and be treated. My wife has recently had surgery on her vessel issue in Moscow, the bad vessels were removed with a laser. I paid only for gas to get her to hospital. Didn’t pay for a couple of days of recovery treatment out there. Nothing, the state did, from my taxes. You gotta fix smth out there folks, really. I highly respect ya guys anyway. Yea my 80+ year old Russian grandpa had brain cancer. Keep in mind they live in a dacha like 6 hours outside of Kazan (buttfuck nowhere). He got all the required appointments setup within a month and after they did all their tests they scheduled his surgery, removed it, had him recover and sent him back to the dacha. All for free, all less than 2 months. For fucking brain cancer! edit: keep in mind most don’t even have electricity in their village and only one person has internet that everyone in the village shares to communicate with family/city.

Here’s one of the main issues with hospitals and I do live in Florida. Many people have realized they can walk into the ER and get basic care walk away regardless of how much it cost because they have no intention of ever paying the bill. Hospitals know this already and they account for so much loss per year, but now with all the people flooding in with no insurance, these hospitals are in trouble nationwide

Totally agree. When the hospital wants their money, they want it right away but when you are due a refund, they love to take their time. I’ve been waiting on a refund for over 2 months now. Called them today and they said sorry but our “billing department” has had a reduction in staff. They don’t give a damn about you. Also, my doctor recommended a heart scan and of course my health insurance wouldn’t cover anything and the procedure is 2300 bucks. My wife is from Japan and we will be moving there probably within the next 5 years and healthcare is a huge reason why. America is overrated and anyone who tells you we are the greatest country, you have been lied too. I have visited 40 countries and America is no longer that great.

I live in NYC, so there’s a mix of income levels but I can tell you i’ve noticed a big increase in the amount of people I see inside Applebees and the Pizzeria Uno across the street from it in my area. I’ve noticed less people in the local McDonalds and Chipotle. Subways been dead. I think people sometimes don’t want to cook, for whatever reason (sometimes i’m not in the mood for the cleanup after it), but also don’t have “higher end” restaurant money to throw around as much but also don’t want to pay $7 for some piece of trash Taco Bell item so they’re going out for the boneless wings and deep dish pizzas. We were driving across the country and stopped at a Mexican restaurant in a little town in Arkansas. It was excellent food and $8 per plate. I told the woman working that it was better than the Mexican food in Colorado, where we live. She beamed. It was, too. McDonald's would have been $14 or $15, and you would have had to order from a computer. I like dealing with real people.

So every year, as things get more expensive (wages, supplies, etc) then the cost of services rises but insurers keep paying less. 100k bill, hospital gets 2k in payment. Thus tylenol tab costs 5 dollars, one night in the hospital costs thousands, etc.

I went to Chilis and was utterly disgusted by the "burger" they served me. They put so much fake butter on it that it soaked completely through the bottom bun and dripped through the paper on the bottom onto the table. I asked them nicely if they could make one with less grease. The waiter flew off the handle and I wound up leaving because I was concerned about what would be on the burger that was served.

No. The hospitals and insurance companies sit down and work out reimbursement rates for every imaginable care scenario and the contracts are usually good for several years. The hospitals know full well what they can expect to be paid and are able to plan their financials around the contracts they agreed to. The $20K bill is a fantasy figure, but if you don't have insurance, you, as an individual, will have to pay it.

Regarding medical, I went in for a physical a few months ago- 1st time to the clinic in 2-3 years Pulled into the parking lot, I was the only car there Sat in the room by myself for 10-15 minutes, a girl came in & checked my blood pressure, asked a few questions & left Then another physician came in & checked heart rate, breathing, poked & prodded a little & left Sat there another 10- 15 minutes & then 3 women came in talked to me a few minutes about mental health stuff & left Sat there by myself another 10- 15 minutes & a women came in to to give a shingles shot, draw blood & left So I was in rher close to 90 minutes The bill to my insurance was $1500 my payment was $15 It felt like they had to keep me there for 90 minutes so they could bill insurance $1500 while the parking lot was empty Its no wonder health insurance is so high I dint know, did they really do $1500 worth of work? They were really nice women but it felt like a bit of scam - what rhey billed insurance compared to me sitting in there mostly by myself for 90 minutes

I eat one meal a day and I'm fine every day. 1 lb hamburger or steak with 4 eggs. never get tired of it. I eat until I'm full usually give the rest to the dog. I never have energy problems so no more 7-10 dollars Starbucks. happier than I've ever been. been on this journey for awhile. reading all the success stories in carnivore diet videos really helps reinforce what I'm doing is right. I'm 38 feeling 19 again. I'd say my organic, grass fed finished beef, pasture eggs, cost me 13 dollars a day. stop making food entertainment and just treat it as your daily nutrition. life is good

The carnivore diet has literally changed my life in every way the weight loss is just a small side effect. I feel amazing in the morning. I have tons of energy blood pressure is back to normal. Only did was eat meat and eggs to fix this carnivore forever!

Califonia mandated you must have health insurance. But if you bought health insurance That high deductible You must paid high deductible first Before the insurance will cover what's a scam . So if you don't buy it You get fine They penalize you $800 or more but it cheaper than a useless insurance.

I don't eat out often anymore but when I do I go to privately owned Diners and Restaurants . 2 reasons : #1 supporting local economy #2 if I am going to pay more than $10 or $12 for food , I want something good .
