God Has Called Me

The short letter of Colossians, written to a young church near ancient Turkey, is Christological treasure chest. Paul stepped deep into God’s work throughout all creation. He wanted these pagan society dwelling Christians to know that God had indeed called them and with purpose in mind.
A segment of pagan society was confused and frustrated with the ancient Greek religions, mystery cult religions, and amoral and unethical religions of their day. Today we are dealing with our own American brand of syncretistic beliefs. Folks have mixed in a little Christianity with materialism, capitalism, emotionalism, mysticism, and irrationalism. This stuff comes to us via mainstream and social media as well as “cheap-grace” books and magazines. Paul’s letter gives us to know that there is nothing or no one that can save us but Christ Jesus. There is no path to true life in time or eternity other than Christ Jesus. There is no collection of information past, present, or future that leads to glory except the words of Christ Jesus. Thus, Paul stated that Jesus is out only hope of glory.
