So proud of the multi-talented Cyndi Lauper for winning the Tony Award for the Lyrics AND score of Kinky Boots in her 60's! She is the first woman in the history of the Tony Awards to win for writing both lyrics and music to a Broadway musical. And what a global hit it has been! Also, we can't underestimate the importance of the True Colors Foundation, when only 7% of youth in America are LGBTQ, but make up almost half of the homeless youth in America BECAUSE they are LGBTQ. Cyndi Lauper is an important ally and powerful voice in the fight for equality and acceptance of the LGBTQ community worldwide. I love and appreciate her message. And finally, thank you, Cyndi, for continuing to produce great music. If you haven't seen her live in concert, that voice will absolutely blow you away. She is better live than any recording can capture, which is a rarity among pop singer/songwriters. I would highly recommend catching her on tour. I've seen her live 3 times.

I saw Kinky Boots last week with my daughters in NYC. Never has a play affected me like this has! It sends a very positive message to everyone! Cyndi Lauper is a genius! You are BEAU-TI-FUL!

She is talented and Kinky Boots rocks but, so much here is way off. She did not write True Colors and the Rainbow Flag was not created out of inspiration by the song. Watch the Behind the Music documentary about her and there is little mention of her dead friend or the song. The Rainbow Flag was created by Gilbert Baker in 1978. True Colors was released in 1986 and was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. I'm so pleased with her Tony for Kinky Boots but she's the master of image and much of this was off the mark when it comes to accuracy.
