Yo! There's a video somewhere of Ren and Sam's first meeting. When they were teenagers Ren had to stop busking for the day and he paused to listen to Sam who was busking nearby with no equipment. Sam had a few friends with him to make him look more popular and one was filming him. Ren offered Sam his equipment, including guitar, but Sam can't play. So Ren stayed and played for him, and Sam made more that day than he ever had as Ren let him keep the takings. They have been friends ever since. I love this story about them because it's so opposite to the industry egos and feuds we hear about all the time.

Ren was a class act even back then. I know a lot of buskers and there's almost no reason any would leave a spot early. I'm guessing here, but I'm betting Ren wasn't feeling well that day and just wanted to go home. Instead he sees a kid with the voice of an angel getting very little attention and the rest olis history. Total class.

As I keep pointing out. it's Ren, he just does whatever he feels like and 99% of the time it he pulls it off. Sam is a really good buddy of Ren's and they started out busking together at a young age and they're rooting for each other now. respect.

The angry car park attendant version is lots of fun and shows how skilled they are singing on the run. I love many of Sam's songs especially the one he did about his Dad called "Hero".

Thanks you! Sam has a great single Loose it All and many others. Also Sam and Ren have a song they wrote together called Blind Eyed, it went viral a few years back. There is a video version and a few live versions of Blind Eyed. Everybody's favorite is one with the angry garage attendant.

This is my top Ren and Sam collaboration, so I was definitely hoping you were going to react. Which you did, greatly! I was thinking about what frankly I found a jaw dropping moment is when Ren comes ic with his full lung voice, it’s a man’s world, you didn’t comment on that moment. The red one is a digitek digital whammy and the beige one is a boss tuner =p the black one in the back middle is his amp sim/fx/interface/di etc. also should be noted that the black expression pedal isn't always a whammy as you see at the end

Oh I thought he was running into a small guitar amp….that would explain the high end harshness on the dirty sound….cutting everything above 8-10k would make it a lot smoother….but maybe he likes the friction?

@@michaelgoyettemusic I think he has compression/eq/gates per patch on the amp sims. It's especially clear to me when he changes patches after starting the looper. It's a genius setup that didn't exist 10 years ago in pedal form. Ppl don't realize he has over a decade of performance experience and is a total pro.

Good morning, loved your review. Nice to see I wasn't the only one up in the middle of the night. So many people will request Blind Eye by Ren and Sam, which they wrote together. Most will request the original, which is live , and I love it . There is another version which is also live done in a parking garage. That one is my personal favorite. It is called Ren and Sam Tomkins Blind Eye ft. Angry car park guy .I think you would so enjoy it .

Don't sleep on Sam - he's a very special artist too and its a delight he is signed and getting the spotlight he deserves. They cover Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" an amazing cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff/Road to Zion and Hip Hop" they also do "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones and Ren plays bass. @@michaelgoyettemusic Not as of yet, I am currently still in college, so I just go around and help teach whoever needs it. Soon we are flying out some guest artist from Ghana to teach us the traditional methods and culture to playing this instrument. Much respect man, and yes, they are quite loud haha.

Yo Mike! just subscribed because your reactions are just different than the others on YT. You gotta check out Ren’s song The Tale of Jenny and Screech (FULL). It’s a trilogy. The story is bananas, but I think you’d really dig the guitar playing, as well as the improvisation of music without actually playing his guitar at times.

Yo. Love your reactions. I've only discovered Ren this last 2 months. Is there anything he can't do? Also he is performing in my home town. so even more annoying I've not seen him live. Don't think he will be able to busk in Brighton anymore when he gets back from Canada. He is too big! Probably take over the whole beach like Fat Boy Slim did a few years ago!

@@michaelgoyettemusic Candy Dulfer is a tremendous Sax player, played with Prince for a while. She has had multiple European tours where she puts together some excellent musicians. One of them she almost always has is the guitarist Uclo Bed and they have a great chemistry, the blending of sax and guitar is something we don't hear enough of.
