I have been a painter on all materials and chair of arts and teacher at colleges for years and MLang is the critical selection of an "artist" for me. We were never allowed to use the title. We called ourselves painters. He is a true spirit. Thank you for showing us your enormous talents.

Hi Michael! I found your demos not to long ago and I soon found myself absolutely stunned by your work. Your way to and eye for creating movement, blending colours and creating this breathtaking play between light and shade in your pieces honestly just leaves me in awe. THANK YOU for sharing this with us! You've become such a huge source of inspiration for me and my work. Now, I have a few questions - I would appreciate it so very much if you'd have the time to answer them. You often use multiple brushes at more or less the same time... I'm guessing one of them is mainly used for blending - do you keep it clean and/or damp all the time? Also, how long does it take you to paint this piece for example? Does the paint stay wet/damp during the whole process (using some king of medium?) or do you paint over dry layers, like scumbling when blending? Again. Thank you so much for sharing your work! It's truly breathtaking! Nicole

hey vaelea, lets see you do any better. I have just got into abstract painting and I think this picture is absolutely a masterpiece. It does look like a cosmic explosion to me but you can call it whatever your heart desires. I think you are gifted and extremely talented and I love the way you use more than one brush. It seems like you apply the paint with one brush and then you blend it on the canvas with the other. I really enjoyed watching you make nothing into something spectacular. You now have a new subscriber.

The colours on this are beautiful. Absolutely amazing! I love it. You say in some of the above comments that you use a medium for your acrylics (again, so much respect because I can't get mine to blend like that at all - I thought it was oils the way you blended them.) May I ask what the medium is that you are using? I ask because I really would like to learn how to blend my acrylics like you do. Thanks in advance for your time and help with this question. Best wishes.

Thank you for sharing this! I love your work. I am exploring abstract art, but must say that it is difficult to think out of the box. I use a medium to blend, no retarder. If the paint drys fast it pushes me to move faster and not think to long or second guess! Think of it that way and its easier to break the conventional process. Good luck.

HI, Thanks for the reply... another question occurred as I watched... Do you blend colors before you place on the canvas? I tend to use them "straight" and blend on the canvas... just curious because the colors you place upon the canvas before you blend are nice. thanks

I do alot of Underpainting. When layering washes a great deal of blending takes place on the canvas. I also blend and mix on the palette depending.

Fantastic ! Only problem is now that i can't stand my own "work" ; ) You are my favorite abstract artist. I have tried to do your styling (like this painting) but just won't succeed. Paintings come out dull and flat. In particular very chalky when trying to make highlights - do you use titanium or zinc white ? Appreciate you showing us your process (would be great with some speech though). But if where would one go for further learning ? Training DVD ? Other sources ?

Gracia

Mr. Lang ~ Thank you for sharing your art... I've done acrylics for years and tend to always paint with a dry-tex ture style, yet, I'd like to know how to make it flow more? Do you water the paint down? if so, what ratio of water (or other) to paint? Do you use tube paints or more of a liquid acrylic? Much obliged ~
@MichaelLangArt10 жыл бұрын
If you add an acrylic medium to either tube paint or liquid it will flow more, try it I'm sure you will love it. I think water is a no-no, it breaks down the paint leaving somewhat bland and diluted colors.
@thatorange089 жыл бұрын
Michael Lang I'm glad you shared this because I've never understood how you can blend & mix so smoothly with acrylic... I used to think oil paints were the only ones that could do it so nicely. I will have to give one of these matte mediums a try.
