@MichaelLangArt12 жыл бұрын
You can try it but I prefer not to, water doesn't really thin the paint it just breaks it down, that's why you can clean your brushes in it. To retain the rich color and fluid motion of the polymer (acrylic) you need to thin and dilute it using a material with the same basic chemical makeup. That's why they make mediums.Good luck!

For those of you who say it's a painting of nothing...you need to pray that God will fix your imagination and your heart. Neither are working correctly. Michael, when I watch you paint, it's so beautiful I want to cry.
@TM-bg5mz3 жыл бұрын
Whose the imbecile that said that? I can tell you one fact for certain. When you see an artist do it, it looks so simple. They have mastered that art form! But when you try it, ....well all hell breaks loose. The stress and frustration of attempting it over and over again because you can’t achieve what they’ve done! Not everyone can do what Michael does. He has his unique painting style and colour palette and you can look at a painting and know right away that he is the artist behind that piece! I’ve tried to do clouds and galaxies and I have failed so many times. Yet I love it so won’t give up yet! Anothet great artist that made things look so easy was Bob Ross. Yeah just try doing a mountian scene. Not easy!!!
@Im2Old4ThisShite3 жыл бұрын
@@TM-bg5mz SO true. People just don't get it, but on KZbin, everybody is a damn expert. The only difference between KZbin experts and actual artists is narcissism. Bob Ross was a perfect example because People can't realize that when they watch Bob Ross, they are seeing perfection in every brush stroke, tap or knife swipe. The ignorant live in bliss while we artists go insane with envy of how the masters make it all look so easy, while we spend our lifetimes in pursuit of just a taste of their collective excellence.

HI. I see that you made this 8 years ago but I just happened to be fortunate enough to have it in my recommended videos. I am so in awe of this amazing piece of art. As another person commented, I am obsessed as well. I have never been one to delve into painting or any type of beautiful artistry like this but have always been crafty...i know its two completely different things but connected in some ways. I recently have been drawn to wanting to try. I have purchased supplies on end, watching YT videos more and more...so whats stopping me???? I guess the dream of wanting to create something so beautiful and then the fear of faiing at it lol. But you, in just this one video, have inspired me to JUST TRY IT! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT!!!

I am still stunned. My dream would be to do a canvas even a fraction as beautiful of yours. The light, the movement, the delicacy of the paint and how every brush stroke had a purpose, I can only dream. I am disabled I love art usually regular art but I am trying to get to learn new techniques that please me not painting for a commission. So I have a 24 hour period without any commitment so I can paint when I want, I have the paints, the tools and the canvass I don't have the knowledge. So I saw you have DVD's but the DVD player is at the other end of the house! I will have to find a way. Thank you so much I have had such joy watching you.

Gorgeous, work! I am a beginner-wanna be. I tried an abstract today and failed miserably. I used water to thin my acrylic paint, not knowing any better. I really want to paint abstract like you demonstrated in this video. I had no clue on thinning mediums so I thank you for sharing!

You can use water bit just not more than 20 .. some people say 30% but I usually stick with 20% water but a medium works best.
@MichaelLangArt5 жыл бұрын
Stick with the mediums for thinning the paint if you can, water breaks down the acrylic polymer making it flat and lifeless. Take your time and enjoy the process, If you don't like it then its not finished, keep at it until you do. Enjoy...MIX

Those who are asking what paint, canvas, medium to dilute, kind of brush etc. It's not about the tools he uses that matters but the talent, the meaning of the piece to him and why he blends certain colors. Even if you give him crappy student quality tools he can still create an amazing piece.

He has a well trained vision and eye at minimum! I would love if he put a collage of his very first art pieces. Something for us to see when he started his journey and how far he has come along. As new artist's, it would really be motivating and encouraging.

Paint would be the best question to answer since there are different types of paints. However, it seems like acrylic wet on wet.

You are right but for someone eager to try their hand at it it does matter what to try when learning. Hes using techniques with washes and textures of paint we would like to kinda know before we ruin costly canvases.
@jconearth66865 жыл бұрын
@ Nel Fabia : don't try giving that advice to a pro, let alone a beginner - tools DO matter in terms of wasted finances, the quality, and the application of the paint - i have been a multi media artist for over 45 years and Mix painting an 'amazing' piece using crappy tools, paints etc won't happen Eg: try listening to a version of Mozart being played with out of tune, or even in tune 'crappy' instruments' and it will be 'amazing' - amazingly crappy ! as a one time musician i can tell you a piece of music played on a 'crappy' instrument does not, will not, sound the same [ as beautiful ] as when played on a good instrument and it is no different with painting - i am sure Mix could render [to the untrained eye] a reasonably well done painting using crappy 'tools' [ brushes paints etc ] but i think he would not, since he knows the quality would not be there - the ONLY time i could see someone buying beginner 'crappy' tools would be if they were uncertain of their venture into painting and perhaps beginner financial considerations - MIx's inspired work is certainly to be admired, but do not hold him too high on a pedestal when giving advice, as that will cloud your ability to comment wisely - without a doubt even Mix had to go through a beginner stage and comments like yours can discourage a beginner....

Just beautiful. Really spectacular. I have a bunch of questions. How many blending brushes do you use? Are you blending with color, turp, or both? How do you keep the colors from becoming muddy or changing the hue? Are you using the fat over lean rule? If you will take the time to answer these questions, I will appreciate it so so much.
@CntrctKllr1878 жыл бұрын
+Deana Khoshaba Glad you like! I usually have 4-5 brushes going at once.This is acrylic paint so Im using medium to blend with and overlapping washes or underpainting. Oil paints will get muddy when combining to many colors usually due to the fact they dry slowly. Its much more difficult to make acrylics muddy.Enjoy...MIX

Please use some kind of acrylic medium or acrylic air brush medium to thin out paint like this...Do Not use water to do this effect...using water creates a very unstable base that can actually detach from your canvas later, and the paint becomes grainy. This should be explained clearly here. Should not have to hunt down that info.

I don't use water except to clean my brushes and special effects! You need to use an acrylic medium to thin the paint ( this is explained in my 'Painting Techniques DVD) the water breaks down the paint and leaves it dull and lifeless. It would be like thinning oil paint with gasoline instead of linseed oil. The medium is made of the same material as the paint and thins it beautifully . You will love the results, good luck...MIX
