The way Turner cable networks (TNT, Cartoon Network, Boomerang) reran the cartoon endlessly throughout the 90s, I was always under the impression that the toyline and franchise were bigger in the 80s than they actually were.

@@MichaelMercy Yeah man. One Christmas it was all kinds of Centurions. Aunts, uncles and grand parents chipped in too. Like an idiot, I threw out all my toys when I went into high school. One of my biggest regrets. I should've at least had the brains to donate them away to some less-fortunate kids. It was just a very impulsive decision.

Just goes to show how a great idea can be executed to near perfection, yet still fail. This proves how cut-throat, and saturated, the 80s was for amazing action figure/toy lines. As pointed out in the video by MM, you had to make a choice as to what to collect since most times you were at the mercy of prices (and willing parents).

I don't comment on this channel very often. But I just want to say i really love your editing. The way you incorporate snippets of cartoons with your reviews and showcases of the toys. It's really nice. Gives your channel a nice feeling. I may not have been born in the 80s. But 80s cartoons are something I've always absolutely loved. So this channel feels right at home to me. Keep up the great work Michael :)

In 1986-87 i had Max Ray and Jake Rockwell but just inital figures with weapon packs , money was tight and the apt was smaller , , figures were on the large and bulky side , , Mom moved us out of state and made me leave a lot of my heavier belongings , missed them plus my Castle GreySkull and over half of my He-Man figures , most of my early run StarWars stuff as well 🤔😭😭😭

I had the Swingshot as a kid. I must have gotten it as a gift for my 3rd birthday or something. I had no idea what this was as Centurions was long over by the time I started playing with it. I remember that I incorporated it with many of my action figures back then and remember keeping the pieces in the box. I cannot believe it was so rare and I wish I still had it. I would've made sure it got into the hands of a collector who wanted it.

I grew up in the 90e but really loved many 80s cartoons that I watched on reruns. But somehow Centurions never really clicked with me. I felt the animation wasn't really up to par with the likes of GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, MASK, and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors (which I was named after), and just looked a a bit less attractive. None of the others were perfect by any means but I did feel like they were a bit more visually appealing then Centurions. The soundtrack is great tho, very epic. And I would have loved these toys when I was a kid. They look really cool and well thought out. And quite a bit ahead of their time.

These figures had such a great gimmick that could've kept evolving had it lasted. In addition to what you said, I think another contributing factor to their demise were the underwhelming villains. Adversely, The Inhumanoids had amazing villains but the heroes never seemed like a hit with kids. Imagine if they had combined the two lines into one story. I think they would've been much more competitive in the market; just a theory I had. Great review as always, sir!

I grew up in Vietnam in the 80s, so obviously we didn't get access to all or any of the great shows back then. One of my uncles who had emigrated to the US lovingly sent me a VHS with a bunch of shows including Transformers. But on it were two episodes of the Centurions. And I was entranced by man and machine! It was my favourite show and I couldn't stop watching it over and over. Once we moved overseas I never understood why no one has heard or remembered this show. It still surprises me they've never tried to tap back into this IP ever again. It's such a cool concept and would be amazing to see as a live action movie.

Sit down for this one. It's a doozie. The setting: I was on vacation visiting my grandmother in... '89? '90? I used to visit every summer, so it's hard to nail down. But they had a CHILDREN'S PALACE store, which we did not have at home. So I was taken there. I would've been 13 or 14 then, still fond of toys, but I'd sorta scaled back toy buying at the time. I didn't see anything there that blew me away, BUT... all their CENTURIONS were on deeep deeeeep clearance. And though I was a G.I.Joe and Transformers kid, like you, CENTURIONS looked like some fun. Especially when they were DIRT CHEAP. Now I can't remember specific prices, but I remember being floored at how outrageously cheap they were. So cheap that I was able to get damn near half the line in one fell swoop. The humans MIGHT'VE been like $2.97 or so, tops. Cool enough story, right? Hold on. I got all 5 human characters (if you can count Terror and Hacker as human), and I got I *believe* one weapon system for Land, one for Air, and one for Sea. And the Sea one I picked out? It was definitely Sea Bat. Watching your video confirmed it. I barely watched the show, so I didn't know these things by name; I just wanted each character to have a weapon system. So I used to own Sea Bat. BUT HOLD ON, WE'RE NOT DONE! To bolster the enemy forces, I got both of THEIR weapons: Strafer... AND Traumatizer. Seriously. I had the two rarest Centurions toys and I had no idea. They were probably $3 or less. I played with them for a few months... they were neat, but no Joe or TF. So like a year later, my grandmother visited ME and asked if I had any toys I wanted to donate to her upcoming garage sale... and I happily handed her a paper bag full of my Centurions... including Sea Bat and Traumatizer. And away they went. And I didn't really miss them. It wasn't til I was watching one of your older videos that I heard you mention that Traumatizer was super rare, and I thought "Well, crap, I had him and I hated him." Now I learn the Sea Bat was just as rare. Oh well. Even if my grandmother hadn't asked for garage sale donations, they would have been given or traded away. I just had them because they were dirt cheap. Guess I was never meant to get rich off toys... seems like I'm more meant to be BROKE because of toys. ;) Thanks for reading, keep up the great videos, pal!!

This was a show I really wanted to get into as a kid, but it just wasn't meant to be. The only toys I could find were broken and missing pieces, and catching the show was quite the challenge. When it aired on Boomerang, it seems like they'd show advertisements for it during every commercial break to tease me, but they'd air it at random times... Fortunately, I was able to watch the series much later on when internet streaming became a thing.

I had Max and Depth Charger when I was a kid. Normally, I would have been drawn to either the air or ground parts of the triangle, but that green of Max's suit, the orange of his gear and that sweet canopy were just too awesome. Plus, I really like the more mech look with the pontoon legs. My family wasn't rich. I mostly had Go Bots instead of transformers. Honestly, I think the only reason I got Max was he looked like my dad with darker hair. I never made the Tom Selleck connection before. Even now, I think Max looks more like my dad back in the 80s than Magnum P.I.

I'm not entirely sure why I loved this so much as a kid...I never saw the toys outside of catalogues and only had a few VHS episodes and story books to go on...maybe that was it, the mystery of what other gadgets and gimmicks were just out of my reach

Just wanted to say thank you for this video and excellent work! I love seeing our vintage toys out in real settings. I've always loved this show. I even named my husky Shadow after the one on this show. Great work!!

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I'm fortunate to have hunted them all down before vintage toy prices went insane. Remember when you could get old toys at a garage sale for a few dollars? I never got into it for profit, I started collecting because the characters meant something special to me. Take care & God bless. 🙏

I only got to know this series back when Boomerang was showing older shows like it; and while some modern shows and such would be awesome, I just don’t trust Warners with it (knowing what Hollywood is like lately, they would probably blackwash the entire cast). I have thought of a way to keep the original characters while also introducing new ones in a way that doesn’t feel forced: have the original trio not only doing their usual world saving adventures, but also be teaching new recruits to the Centurions both about the stuff that goes into the operation of their systems and just life lessons that the audience can learn from too (actual life lessons, not just the acceptance type of lessons)! It could also be used to introduce new armors, like a Jungle Combat themed series of armaments (Jake may be the land combat specialist, but I doubt any of his weapon’s systems could work very well trying to maneuver through a dense jungle), an ice themed system, or even some every day type systems like Police, Construction, or Firefighter! Too bad Warner doesn’t listen to what people are saying here online, I’m sure a lot of people here have good ideas for stuff like this; some of it is probably better than mine!

The best Centurions vid I've found on the Tubes! For me, this was one of the best toy lines and cartoons of my childhood years. I now only own my favourite character and weapon system - Jake Rockwell with Wild Weasel. This would definitely work (in the right hands) nowadays, I can even see the potential for a decent film... alas, not sure it will ever happen. Again, great video mate. 👌👍

We used to have a drinking game back in the 90's where me and my buddies would attempt to drink 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes called centurions, after every shot we would say 'Power Extreme!!!!' i don't think we ever made it past 30 drinks though. That cartoon was cool and great toys!

Most of The Centurions toys were used on the Boomerang Channel’s Action Block: Boomeraction. The show also had bumpers but 2 only.
