In this video, we take a look at how rivers change the surface of the Earth through extensive weathering, erosion, and deposition. We look at the anatomy of rivers, how they evolve over time forming wide meanders, deltas, and how they deposit sorted, rounded sediments.

Are you going to talk about wind erosion as well? how about ice or glaciers Mike? And I request of summarizing all about erosion. I love this water erosion video because I understand it very well. But I'm confused about the flow of how am I going to report about erosion and deposition. And is deposition the same as sedimentation?

It seems to me that your distinction of weathering and erosion is not generally accepted. Erosion is often understood as INCLUDING the weathering, not only the transport away from the site. That inclusion makes sense to me, because the two processes often happen simultaneously: for example, a flood loosens the sand in a dam adjacent to the flooding river AND transports the sand away. . . . Is your distinction of weathering and erosion the accepted standard within geological science, or do geologists use erosion also to include weathering sometimes?
@Achill101
@Achill101 3 жыл бұрын
I've watched another video of yours about weathering, see kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6jNZ2Vvd5mCm5o For me as a layman, it was not weathering in general but ABRASION that often happens simultaneously with erosion, because if a small particle is thrown against the rock by wind or water and separates another particle from that rock, the first step of erosion of transporting away has happened already. Much of physical weathering is abrasion, as you said, therefore, the border between weathering and erosion seems to me often not sharply defined.

How does the density of the transported material not play a role? 8:15

Of course it does! Heavier materials will settle faster than lighter materials. Just not something I addressed in this particular video, the focus was more on sorting.

Rivers usually make delta at their old or saline stage when they are about to merge with ocean....river divide itself into different streams...a picture of delta will make uh undrstnd wht it actually is..

I wanna ask about deposition at the curve, like at 14:11, the outter coast down left is kinda flat. Also if zou look at the famous Horseshoe Bend, the outer coast is flat and inside is steep, what can cause that?
