Photographing New Zealand is a new series of landscape photography vlogs. Where I take you on the adventure with me, to showcase this incredible country through timelapse, photo and video.
In this episode I head out to Mount Cook National Park to capture timelapses of the surrounding peaks. I witness some of the most stunning conditions I have ever gotten on any trip, capturing multiple rainbows, dark dramatic cloud and light beams.
Learn how I post process my images!

So I should have mentioned this in the video. Polarization can actually help to pop rainbows if twisted in the other direction if used properly. Just do not twist the other way or the polarization will be cut out and you will remove it. I was a little sleep deprived up on the mountain and did not choose my words correctly. Anyways I hope you all enjoy the video! :)

Another brilliant video Mike. That first timelapse was so dramatic, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Love how you realized that polarizer situation and still didn't give up. Above all I appreciate how real and accurate you choose to post process these (already) magical landscapes . Sharing your post processing makes the video even more powerful than it already is. Also, great music choices!

Michael, I always enjoy your work, it is just so beautiful. I'm wondering about exposure to the right - do you ever use that technique, or do you always try to capture the exposure settings in-camera as close to the final product as possible? Are there any drawbacks to that technique that you know of? Thank you!

Another great video and love your time lapse work. Quick question when editing the images for the time lapses, you said one of them had 600 images and then one was about 450. Do you tend to do batch editing the collection of images, where you edit one image and copy the setting to a number and then if the light changes edit different batch or do you go through all the 600 and edit one at a time? I take it its not one at a time of that would take forever but would be nice to know how you edit the images for the time lapse? Many Thanks LeeW

long-time fan. love seeing the finished work, adventure updates, and the processing thoughts all in one video! would you be willing to share any tips to prevent/process-out wind-induced jitter in time lapses? (already weighing tripod, shooting wide, and using warp stabilizer to no avail). i can hardly discern any vibration in your shots even though you're clearly in very windy situations!
@MichaelShainblum
@MichaelShainblum 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! So if at all possible I block the wind using objects in the scene. So in the case of those 60mph winds on the hill, I hid my camera behind a rock. It got rid of most of the shake, then I finished the last bit of shake off with Warp Stabilizer in post. Definitely weighing down the tripod works nicely in a lot of cases. Shooting wide definitely helps as well. There was a fair breeze while I was shooting the slider shot with the storm clouds, and just shooting wide I did not have to use warp stabilizer on that one.
@rlin
