I like how the video is set up...he explains what is what...but in green on the bottom is what the camera is showing...and he shows the item he is discussing as a circe in green. He is a really good teacher because people aren't going to leave saying, 'wait, what'...or he said such and such, but I still have questions as to what the camera is showing on the menu. So if you are reading this 'Michael the Maven', good job and I saved it to my photography tips folder. By the way, can you do a tutorial on the Canon 5D Mark III and Mark IV?

Thanks Michael, I'm a Nikon shooter since 2009, yesterday I tried my friends 5D mark IV and I went almost crazy. My preference in Nikon is the same as yours. I move the focus point to wear I want. The default meant I needed three fingers to operate. This should be how it is set out of the box.

This is a fantastic primer - so many blogs a vblogs covering the 5D Mk4 are geared for those stepping up from the Mk3. I moved into the 5D Mk4 from the 6D and this was exactly the video I needed on how to master the (far) more advanced focusing system.

Danny - I've been using the 5DMk4 for three months now. Every aspect of the camera is better than the 6D. The focus system, the dynamic range. I have zero reservations about making the jump. Perhaps the difference would have been the same if I'd gotten into the now-less expensive Mk3, and I can't speak to that. I can tell you that I'm not sitting here thinking "This is great but I wonder if I could have realized a better value by choosing the Mk3?"

Great explanation! I shoot dual back button auto focus with the "af/on" being single point and the "*" being a large area for flying or fast moving subjects.

my favorite focusing system on the 5DIV is the dual pixel... yay for touch screens! and it's wayyyy fast enough for portraits, soo much more accurate, and almost good enough for photojournalism/moving subjects :D

Why would you want to move the the cluster around the frame? It seems, e.g. if you have spot focus in the center, and you have say back button AF set up, you meter with half press shutter button, release it, move the camera to the desired spot focus on subject, hit the AF ON button in back until it beeps, release it, final compose and shoot. Nothing to ever reset. (Can probably leave the metering until recompose-even faster)
