Bourez is hands down my favorite surfer on tour, has been for years. But, Mikey Wright's power and style is a close second because of his air game is on point too. Power surfing will always be relevant, guys with air games come and go. But power surfing will always be a staple of good surfing.

I was thinkin 9.13 for griffin's good size set wave tube ride- 8.5 seemed low

I think it came down to the turn after the tube. A little flat. Had he used the critical section after the tube better he would have gone into the 9's.

It's a shame that surfing's progression has stalled so much. Obviously it's a sport where nature is the biggest hurdle but the typical turn to turn surfing is getting old. Competition surfing needs to step up a bit and let the guys like Griffin, Felipe, Italo, etc lead the way with more airs and more flat surf tricks like the pop shove it and switch stance surfing. Imagine seeing Italo catch an overhead outside bomb riding switch and doing a nose pick to reverse then jumping to his regular stance and doin turns? That's progression in surfing. Only place really progressing is the big wave tour.

i agree with Conspiracies... was anything Bourez was doing very innovative or progressive? Griffin risked more by throwing an air in a critical section than Michel did by getting barreled and power carving on every wave. I think Griffin got robbed on both of his scoring waves.

Any air should be ranked above 7.0 depending on the air.. turns are for intermediate surfers which most surfers are able to do.. I’m not saying turns aren’t important and shouldn’t mean anything but when u see an air being thrown or a reverse then it’s on a professional level compared to silly carves... surfers should learn from Toledo Italo Florence Medina and colapinto. Otherwise they don’t stand a chance 😅

Griffin comes out of a good tube but throws hardly any spray on his cut back? With all that speed wheres the buckets?

B Griffin also it helps if you weigh more than a hundred fifty pounds soaking wet. Still I've seen Rob Machado throw huge buckets at Seaside on a 2-foot face so I guess it's up to the individual Surfer and how far back they put their foot and if they grab the rail or not there's just so many variables I've been surfing 30 years and I competed for a good 12 of those years. See you in the water bro
