@Luis Macas! - Thanks SO much for presenting this! - Mil millones de gracias! - This is to say the very least EXQUISITE! - There really aren't adjectives to describe the sheer beauty of sound here! - The very last piece, for me, conjured up an image of a mother with a baby against her breast; gently rocking the sleeping child. I wonder what that amazing piece is called.

Beautiful! From the sound of the instrument alone, and lacking sufficient information otherwise, my (rather tentative) guess would be that this first suite, at least, is played on the "angelique", a lt.-seventeenth/ea. eighteenth French/German lute with single strings, only, tuned harp-fashion diatoncally from C (i.e., 'cello c'). The highest string (I believe tuned to f') is the only one regularly fingered; the lower ones only for accidentals. Several antique examples survive, several made by Joachim Tielke in Hamburg. It was largely considered a "ladies' " instrument, and was supposedly easier to play than the normal lute (I must wonder if there was ever much truth to that!) Monsieur Moreno plays expressively and with touching delicacy what sounds to me like rather challenging music.

Moreno is one of my favourite players but I cannot find a single video in which I can see him playing lute, isn't it strange???

Looks like the album is badly translated from english... It should be "Pièces françaises pour théorbe, tablature d'angélique et pièces de théorbe".

hello, théorbe de pieces is actually the name for a smaller, French chamber-theorbo.
