I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this series. It has been a huge help to me. Thank you so much for all the work you did in presenting this series. Since you started this series, I've been trying different powders and powder combinations. For setting I like the Chanel in 30 Natural or Too Faced Born This Way. For finishing, hands down I love the Meteorites. In Meteorites I have the Clair, Medium and the LE Rainbow. I always avoided them because they looked too sparkly in their tin. Once on the skin, I don't see any glitter. Tarababyz always mentions them which made me go hmmmmm. But your demo on dry skin looking lovely made me run out and get 3 tins LOL I do like the Hourglass Ambient lighting powders but I have to use a light hand. Your comparison of different powders to the Hourglass in one of your videos mentioned it can look thick and you are so right. Thick is an excellent description of what can happen. Sometimes I'd use the Hourglass and it would look lovely while other times it looked heavy. Again, thank you!

Very interesting series, Michelle. My skin is SO dry, even with great skin care, I can’t use a finishing AND setting powder. My go to foundation remains Georgio Armani luminous silk & I never had a problem applying blush and bronzer over it without a setting powder. After my blush, bronzer, etc, I can only use Hourglass ambient powder as a finishing powder and sometimes I still go back to my Lancôme Absolute powder. Those remain the best for my very dry skin. I get a beautiful satin blurring finish that is neither dry or cakey. Thank you for this informative series.

Hi Michele! I really enjoyed this series on lose powder & learned so much! I have a very similar skin type to yours & rather than finish my makeup again with powder I just use a setting spray 😁. I like either the Armani for days I don’t want a ton of glow or the Color FX illuminating setting spray for when I’m dull & want to glow 👌. I love ur channel and the style in which ur present things. You’re informative & enjoyable to listen too! Xoxo 😘 Deborah

Ive been loving this series! I’m commenting as I watch so apologies if you say this later (if I don’t comment as I think of it, i forget to!)...but I also have dry skin and felt the same way as you as far as powder settling weird on my face. Anyway! My life-changing tip is to try applying it with a damp beauty blender. I know it sounds weird and counter-intuitive but it goes on beautifully and wears like iron. I just sort of dip it into some powder, press it in, and dust off any excess if needed but usually don’t need to. And looks more natural than anything else I’ve done! I still use setting spray when all is said and done but it has been really made a huge difference in my makeup, especially as I’m now in my 40’s I certainly don’t want my powder to age me 10 years!

I use the Hourglass Veil as my setting powder, applied with a barely damp sponge. I like it because it's not drying & doesn't take away the glow of my hydrating cushion foundation. When I use a finishing or buffing powder, I use Stellar. It really blurs & softens pores & imperfections. The Stellar I apply with a brush, not a sponge, in a pat & roll motion. Buffing motions tends to cause exfoliation & loosen dry skin causing texture so I avoid it.

I used to love YSL loose powder but I noticed they have changed the packaging. One of the best things about it was the convenience of the one turn case which pushed up just enough powder for one use. No wasted powder which is important at this price. I also loved the product itself.

I know you didn’t like the by terry hydra powder but it sounded good to me and my needs so I bought it and I absolutely love it. I have very oily 47 year old skin. Like you said, it has a very matte finish but it is never cakey on me because it’s so finely milled. It’s def my holy grail. It also doesn’t settle into any wrinkles. I can reapply throughout the day (I’m extremely oily) without it ever looking heavy. So I just wanted to say a big thank you for introducing it to me. I have never been completely happy with any powder I tried and this makes a big difference to my make up and it’s staying power.

Michele, I appreciate how thorough you were! So helpful. I use meteorites in Clair as finishing powder, really helps to soften any harsh edges. If I happen to bake, I use cinema secrets ultralucent (its loose) setting powder in Colorless. No talc. I have a love hate relationship with hourglass ambient powders. Doesn't work for my undereye and gotta be careful not to over apply in general. Not worth the money to me. I really like the effect of Meteorites ❤

Hi Michele...new to your channel..Just stumbled upon it..Been watching several of your videos...Love your personality...Very honest and down to earth..very informative...I am not someone that uses much makeup at all. I am a mature women and also have some problems with combination skin..dryer in the winter of course. Fine lines..etc...I agree with so much of what you described about using any loose powder or finishing powder of any kind. The only powder i have used in the past was MAC skin finish...I do not have a big budget for makeup however so I need to get one that is affordable. I have very fair skin so its hard for me to choose one that blends with my skin color. I don't use foundation, I just use tinted moisturizers with spf..I was interested in your full review of all the powders you tried..very interesting and informative. I love the way you go into such great deal and explain everything about each product.. If you have any thoughts for powders that might be a little less expensive as some of the powders you reviewed. Also I am not sure if I was to use only one powder which you think is better a setting powder or a finishing powder.

I tried your method of pouncing the brush on the eye. Here's my question: do you find having even the smallest amount of setting powder on your eyelashes affects your mascara? Mine started to flake after doing this a few days. I use a tubal mascara, so possibly the formula couldn't adhere to the lashes. I need to get the Sonia G. brush and try that for buffing. I love my Chik, Hakuhodo, and Surrat brushes, but I don't have one with a flat top. I have LOVED your powder series. Thank you so much for doing this. I alternate between the Cle de Peau and Sisley Rose D'Orient (no glitter) powders for setting my under-eye area. Both are fabulous. Love the Sisley Irisee as a finishing powder. You've inspired me to dig out the Guerlain Meteorites and give them another shot. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed by them.

I’m looking at the Meteorites powder and am not sure which formula to get- I mostly use a finishing powder and it sounds like this might possibly be the one to try or the Chantecaille or YSL.. I’m looking for a bit of glow without sparkles.. Maybe I should watch this again😂You are so thorough in your explanation of the powders and I’m currently looking for a new finishing powder. I had been using the Hourlglass veil but want something with a touch more glow- not sparkly, but a glow to blur. I’m in my late 50’s with good skin but don’t want to look “powdery”

I think you'll enjoy either the Meteorites or YSL - the Chantecaille is def not as glowy as the Hourglass.

Michele Wang after watching your review of the newest Hourglass finishing powders, I think I need to get that! I think it contains everything I’ll need! I did order the YSL powder, too, so I’ll see if I like that one or not☺️

Hourglass for finishing? Thoughts (not the loose one but ambient lighting).

I like the pressed Hourglass powders, but I have to go light. If I use too heavy of a hand, my makeup starts to look too thick.

One question, Chantecaille...I have only access to buy the colour version,(live in Europe), how much does it darken the skin?! I am around nc20-25...

I think how much it deepens your complexion will depend on how much you use. My understanding is that they are all translucent, so your skin will come through. I don't think it will be too drastic.
