Whats Up Everybody, Welcome Back!
Today we chat about Michelins FORCE AM2 All Performance Trail tyre, also falls under the Downduro/Aggressive XC tyre Category. I have been running this set for 7 months and have used them on all trails from smooth hard packed flow to loose dusty techy jank and they have performed FLAWLESSLY every time.
The Force AM2 is a perfect example that the performance of a tyre shouldn’t always be judged on looks and looks alone, the cornering capability’s of this tyre absolutely blew me away, even knowing it holds tight against forces and the trail elements I still couldn’t bring myself to push the front end until it broke traction and part of the reason why is because im already leaning it beyond my comfort zone and beyond that of many tyres ive used in the past.
GUM-X -
Michelin don’t rely on soft rubber to earn their traction points, they run a slightly firmer durometer than most and inject a secret sticky compound for traction, this offers us, the rider a tyre that is more responsive, active and sharp in its feel, softer compounds tend to roll in all directions a little too much and obviously do wear out faster.
GRAVITY SHEILD CASING -
The 3x60 casing is designed with the strands running in a crisscross & vertical formation offering up an insane level of lateral support without the need for a beefier heavier sidewall and a near impenetrable sidewall fighting back against foreign objects like shale, glass, and other sharp items that always seem to make their way onto the trail..
WHY A 2.6” UP FRONT? -
As I mentioned in the video it does stem from my BMX days but having a 2.6 up front offers a smoother more pliable feel without having to reduce tyre pressure as much. Im not a fan of an overly low front tyre, it always seems to roll at the worst times. A 2.6 resolves this and improves the front end response and handling, for me anyways.
Thanks as always for tuning into the channel and I always appreciate the support.

Hey Legends welcome back and thanks for chiming in. The biggest debate within the MTB Community is tyres, choice of brand and choice of model will be an endless discussion. Do you use Michelin Tyres, where do you ride and whats your thoughts, please let me know below as I’m always keen to find out what others think and why. Stay rad and keep pushing your limits and boundaries.

Timely review. I was just checking out the new Wild Enduro Rear which looks a bit like the Force but with taller side knobs. Sounds like Michelins are worth a look.

Yes the new Wild Enduro set has just landed in Aus, the front is now a 2.5 (was a 2.4) and both have been revamped. The rear looks fast too.

I have been using a set of wild (front) and force (rear) in 2.4 for 1750km, and they will still last another 300 or 400km. I think they are perfect tires for aggressive trail riding. I admit that I have had several scares due to loss of front grip, but I think they were my mistakes. Previously I rode wild enduros, which are beasts in terms of grip but I suffered when climbing. These seem to me to be a perfect compromise between grip and rolling, although it makes me pay more attention to the line. The Force AM2 is not a mud tire. In my area it rains a lot and in winter I have had some traction problems on muddy ramps. But as I said before, taking care of the route can be solved fairly well. In any case, if the descent is muddy, you have to regulate your speed.

Hey @oiersaenz thanks for your comment. I have just got myself a set of the Wild AM2’s, I’m keen to try them but I reckon I’ll end up with a FORCE AM2 on the back as well. It seems like the ultimate all round combo with the least compromises. I am going to stick to a 2.6” up front just as I’m riding now. Stay Rad and thanks again for your comment👍

Nice ! I reckon I've got too much rubber on my wheels for a trail bike lol. These look fast and the price seems good too 👌

Agreed many riders are over rubbered and have too much travel for the bulk of our SEQ trail networks. Im switching over to the WILD AM2 tyres now and although rated a fast tyre I’m still disappointed that I’m stepping of these Force AM2’s, they are just soo much fun to ride on…

Ohh you are going to absolutely love these for the SEQ region, Prior to the Force AM2 I was running the E-Wild 2.6 up front on my MTB (Not eBike). Im now running them on my Focus Jam2 SL and having loads of fun..

Cool, try out Mich perhaps one day 😋using max Ardent race, very good for Xc race and riding , quick, long last, grips l, light. But Sometimes pinch flat at good psi and rear rim roll over when pressed to max g

Of all the Maxxis Tyres the Ardent was my fave, not the “Race”. Yes the issue was weak sidewalls and as I’m a 100kilo (240pounds) they just never held up in support but gripped good and were fast. These FORCE AM2 Tyres are very sturdy and still light.

I considered the Force AM2. Has my rear tyre wear on my bike and was looking for more efficiency. Decided to keep it in the family and go with Vittoria aggaro on the rear to compliment the up front Mazza. previously Mazza-Martello 2.4 2.35. wasn't a fan of the Martello. Big fans of the Mazza and Agarro. Still keen to try out the Michies tho. maybe after I replace my front tyre and this set wears out. Rear tyre is still a bit fresh to swap full set but front is on its way out.

Hey @JakeyDill I can understand why you were happy to stick with a brand that you know and although ive not used Vittorias in some time I can confidentially say that you cant really go wrong with any of the 3 Euro leaders right now, Michelin, Vittoria & Conti’s. Obviously I will recommend giving the Michi’s a shot when an opportunity arises, but you’re not missing out by riding the Vittoria’s. Thanks for chiming in, appreciate you 👊

Thanks Craig, on the to try list now I reckon. This though ^^^ give the Vittoria'a a go next and compare a few, was shocked at the improvement in rolling resistance going from Assegai/Dissector to the Mazza/Martello combo with minimal tradeoff (tiny loss of front grip under brakes only imo)

How do you rate these against the Pirelli tyres?
@FlowmentumMTB
@FlowmentumMTB 3 ай бұрын
Hey Grant, rather not comment as I’ve only ridden them once, they were on a mates bike I rode for the day but the air pressure and suspension set up wasn’t right for me so it would be unfair to base my experience on that. They do get good reviews and no doubt for good reason, like Michelin if it’s a major Euro brand they will have something good to offer.

@@barrakingbeatz7794 ahhh, sorry I misinterpreted that, no I don’t get them for free BUT I do get looked after, I can chose from a few different brands and after riding all the options the Michelins got me hooked first ride. Ive ridden a number of the Michelin lines now and not been disappointed with any.
