Thanks for this video, I loved it! I was a fan of Michelle since she came on the scene as a young girl. She is incredible, and this video was a great was to "get to know her" a bit. Thanks for the memories, MIchelle, and thanks for doing so much for the game I love. Iona, you are inspitational in your own way, and I love all your video series. I have been a fan of women's golf for so many years - basically from when I fell in love with the game more than 5 decades ago, and it makes me happy seeing the growth in the women's game.

Michelle was must see TV when she was at her peak. A uniquely talented athlete with an enormous level of ability unseen before. Injuries unfortunately derailed her at the height of her powers but still moved the need and changed the game forever. 🙏

I think Michele has handled her life very well considering all she had to endure with the unfair golf expectations as a child prodigy and criticism she received with the way she went about competing at an early age. She hasn’t shied away from the criticism and talks honesty about all her experiences. She is obviously grounded and comfortable in her own skin despite people until this day still hold onto their negative idea of her. She has moved on but others just cannot.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I always considered Michelle Wie to be a bust. Granted, she won 5 tournaments (one being a major), but that’s not considered enough to make anyone an “icon” or “superstar” or “legend” by any stretch. She had a decent career, but nothing stands out so much so that she would be considered one of the game’s greats. I really hate it when a celebrity or athlete’s ego is so over-inflated that they expect to be categorized with the best of the best, so the interviewer has to stroke their ego and say things that aren’t anywhere close to the truth of the matter. Would you consider Webb Simpson or Keegan Bradley “legends” or “icons” or “superstars”… absolutely not, but they both have SEVEN wins with one major so they’ve won two more times than Wie and you’d never think of them if someone said “name your top 10 iconic golfers”. I think Wie was a bust who left the game no different than how it was when she showed up. She was a flash in the pan who Nike bet BIG BIG BIG money on (and supposedly is still paying her for some of reason) so she got a lot of media attention because of the ridiculous contracts she was signing, but she never really lived up to the hype. That’s just my opinion… I’m just a 12 handicaper with a day job, so don’t put too much stock in what I’m saying.

Yes, not a legend in terms of tour and major wins but a legend in the broader ladies golfing perspective and evolution.

It's a shame she wasted so much of her early career pursuing the PGA tour. I feel like she would have won more LPGA majors.
@zazhouАй бұрын
Agree, but I think that was more the fault of her management team at the time. She was just a young, naive kid.
@BrianOSullivan-tb3if18 күн бұрын
To be brutally honest I was never a fan of Michelle Wie. I think she was badly advised as a kid. Should have focused on being a top women pro and shouldn’t have have been playing against the men early in her career. This was a distraction and she never really lived up to the hype with only 5 pro victories. At least this was a relatively short interview unlike some.
@tdhawk7284Ай бұрын
MW is a cautionary tale of how NOT to manage the career of a golf prodigy. Instead of learning how to win against her peers, her parents indulged her unreasonable aspirations of competing against men and someday competing at Augusta. At the end, her body betrayed her before her maturity and self-awareness caught up. She definitely under performed as compared to her prodigious talent.
@OldbogeydufferАй бұрын
There is a big difference between encouraging and pushing a person. For adults it’s their choice, not a problem but for children and teens it’s important to set some limits. Andre Agassi’s book Open reveals some unintended outcomes. I’m impressed Michele commented about finding a balance with her children.
