Wow !! THIS VIDEOOOO IS SPEAKING TO ME!! I totally want to do this! I deff see myself being an activites host as I recently worked as an event promoter for a radio station in town & always present people and greet/introduce games to people and fans at events and was literally the most funnest job meeting people and having a great time! I am 21 years old and in a bit of a crossroad for which career path I should chose, no degree or anything and Im from Florida and undecided on what to do. I want to travel more than anything while I'm young and just want to gain as much experience as I can to eventually own a business in the future. So it's between going in the medical field in the military or getting a job doing this? Or maybe both? You are truly an inspiration Michelle!!

And i am considering the activities and all. I can't bring just black and whites. Correct?😅 Help me out on some essentials. Thanks much!!
@MichelleTimrox7 жыл бұрын
I think this was called crew admin on my line... they wore the officer uniform with the stripes- you'll be in uniform about 75% of your contract- only in your own clothes after work/in port... there are definitely theme party days for the crew but people will find things in ports/ make things/ share things as there is enough advanced notice usually to go shop :) Remember you can buy things- you don't have to haul everything there :) Maybe try and get the email for the current crew admin onboard and send them a message :) (they should have an email).

@MichelleTimrox8 жыл бұрын
depends on the position and the day (sea day, port day, lots of guests expected on or off, early arrival/late arrival...)- thats why there isn't really a number. I'd work between 5 and 10. A good range.

hi Michelle! Is it possible to change departments on a cruise ship? let's say from housekeeping to front office? like cross training?
@MichelleTimrox8 жыл бұрын
Showtime absolutely, happens all the time. you just have to have a chat with the onboard hr- some positions require interviews with them- and if you check off all the boxes, you can start cross training and switch over if it's working out/ there's a space on the ship you're currently on. if there isn't space they will try and place you on another ship in that department

What is your favorite gift you have received from a guest? I know you don't have much space to keep things so I was thinking of giving my cabin steward a box of chocolates as a hello :)
@MichelleTimrox8 жыл бұрын
+Liz Talley chocolate is always awesome- but instead of just bringing it, maybe do a little digging and find out what they really like ( you never know, maybe you wind up with that one steward that doesn't eat it)?though everything and anything is an amazing gesture, the best gifts I've gotten have been from guests that paid attention to my likes- then got me something. Sometimes it was on the cruise (they'd buy me something from the ship or port- where there can be loads of candy depending on which ship/which itinerary), sometimes it was when they returned for a second time and brought me something from their home and sometimes we'd exchange emails/addresses and they'd lovingly ship me my favourite chocolates on holidays. If you are from somewhere that's 'known' for something good, that's always cool to receive and try as well. Let's us know you back :)

Jeremy Conrad nope. once you are hired you are in. At some point during yout contract (near the end) they give you the details of your next contract- which starts about 2 months after the end of your last. theyll give you which ship, date, etc. you'd only need to interview again if you want to change jobs ( which can be done onboard) or if you want to switch cruise lines.

To my knowledge, which may or may not be correct- depending on how long you had left you'd still work (or quit, personal choice)- I mean, you wouldn't show for a while, who needs to know? but you wouldn't be able to return pregnant. You can't go on to work with a bun in the oven so to speak.

How dose the key card work dose the money they put on come out of your wages or do u just get it
@MichelleTimrox6 жыл бұрын
You get paid onto a proper banking debit card supplied by the ship. You can keep the money you make on there and have that be your bank or send it to your existing bank account and clear it out. Your ship card is different. You have to put money on it yourself and it acts like a prepaid card for buying things around the ship/in the crew bar. When the funds run out you have to top it up or you have no money. It's different from the guests. The guests use it more like a credit card and pay their bills at the end. Reverse.

In the beginning, way back when I worked from 2010-2011 I was paid in cash. These days (and I'm not sure if its the same for all lines/ all countries) I had an account set up and the funds were direct deposited in. It is an account set up by the company, you can't just use your own existing account- but I COULD set it to forward to my own home account for a small fee, keeping a small percentage on my ship card for some in-port fun... my allowance so to speak.

I was really enjoying your videos until the snobby comments on other cruise lines. Disney and RCCL are full of screaming kids and Carnival is full of drunks (with full eye roll)? Have you ever been on these cruise lines? I have, and I haven't experienced either of these. Generalize much?
@MichelleTimrox8 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen! Thanks for the comment, totally understand your side. I have been on those lines as a guest and experienced a couple domestics- so just my view (all my vids are my views). I understand not ALL people will have had the same experience. Things can happen anywhere depending on the guest mix and circumstances. But generally Disney does have the most amount of kids (I've heard an average of 1000 per cruise, where as mine would average 30-50. 400 if it was high season-aka christmas or march break) and carnival tends to be a younger, party crowd as it's more economical than one of the luxury brands. :)
