Michigan football news and OVERREACTIONS following Saturday’s ABSURDLY frustrating 27-17 loss to Washington in a rematch of the national championship game on January 8th. Michigan lost their 1st Big Ten game since October 30, 2021 when they blew a 16 point 2nd half lead and lost 37-33 to Michigan State. Michigan pulled Alex Orji from QB and inserted Jack Tuttle in the 2nd quarter, and despite 3 straight scoring drives to take a 17-14 lead, the offense once again did nothing for most of the 2nd half, and blew the game with 2 4th quarter turnovers from Tuttle - an interception and a fumble - both of which led to Washington scores.

Wink Martindale has failed... This defense has so much talent and are the victims of coaching malpractice. Not counting Texas, Michigan D giving up avg. of 12.6 points in 4th Q - including 13 against Washington. Michigan led 17-14 to start 4th, but blew it again. A Washington team returning almost no one on offense from 2023 had 315 pass yards and 429 total yards vs. Michigan and got 1st downs on 3/6 3rd and 7+ on the night.

Glimmer of hope? The running game, especially Donovan Edwards, looked competent once Tuttle got in the game. Edwards had 14 carries, 98 yards and 1 TD rushing while adding 2 catches and 23 yards vs. Washington. Kalel Mullings chipped in with 14 car, 49 yards.

If Tuttle was fit enough to play why was he not fit enough to start? The coaches knew what Orji would bring and yet they let him start putting us down 14-0. Players play but coaches coach and the play calling has been terrible. And how can the defending national champions not have a QB that can run our offense?

My thoughts exactly. Imagine if Michigan came out like they did with Tuttle. Might’ve been up by a score or two. But I don’t blame Tuttle completely for the turnovers. Back to back passes was a dumb call even on 1st and 15. Michigan never wins when they stray from the run. The play calling is terrible. I would bet that Moore designed the play calling in the beginning of 2nd half. They ran a jet sweep and a jet reverse swing pass. THATS THE TYPE OF STUFF WE NEED TO DO MORE OF!!! stretch the defense out horizontally. All we do is run inside and then throw dump offs to the tight end.

Now they are going to their 3rd QB Tuttle, who is probably the best option that I’ve seen but him being injured often has been a big issue. Yes he made mistakes but when he took over you could see difference. Problem is the O line and receivers aren’t playing very well to say the least. You can’t throw it to Loveland every time! …..I did not even get to the secondary, they 💩!

I think we need to be realistic about this team in that the O-Line is poor, the LB's can't cover the receivers, the corners can't cover receivers (Will needs to be more consistent), and our WR's can't get open. The only receivers that are reliable are TE's, Colston and Klein. And our QB's- if the receivers can't get open, what do you expect them to do? We don't have a McCarthy at QB nor do we have a Roman Wilson. How do you expect to win with all of these inefficiencies? We MUST make recruiting better a priority, as well as the TRANSFER PORTAL. We must get better OL, LB's, big WR's, DB's. Our ACADEMICS need to lessen their requirements to get better players who may not be superior students. We need to accept that most of these players have NFL aspirations. Lastly, have Sherrone start calling the plays and let Campbell go. I think we may have more success with Sheronne calling the plays.

There is no slicing and dicing it, Michigan is quarterback-less. And make no mistake about it, this is completely and utterly the fault of the coaches...period (yes...I'm looking at you Moore and Campbell). With NIL and the very generous transfer portal, there is NO excuse for this. Halfway through this season, and M has had 3 different QBs who have all had some significant playing time, and not one of them is capable of leading this team. NOT ONE!! You will never convince me that the coaches saw no signs of this issue during the off season. And if they did...well, I think that would speak for itself. I think most reasonable fans knew that this was going to be tough season. You can't lose the amount of players M lost after last season, and expect little to no drop off. But this is ridiculous.

Defending national champs, but look at what we've lost. Harbaugh, of course, but maybe coach Moore can step up. Minter, former pro offensive coordinator, JJ McCarthy, 1st round NFL draft pick, Sainristil, fantastic defensive back, and Corum, all-time Michigan scoring leader. I mean I know some great programs can simply reload and continue, but Michigan is not one of those teams. Wolverines football is almost always a pretty good squad, which is more than any other college can say, but for this school to win it all is once in a generation. Michigan football is a great tradition, but unlike the other great gridiron powers, it is also known as the best public university in this country, quietly producing Noble Prize winners and key scientific research, as well as being a top-level law school, medical school, and engineering school. All of this is funded by a huge endowment which was fueled by the gifts of 20th century auto magnates, from the era when Detroit built every car in America. To the university leaders, football is much less important than, at say, Ohio State. But the program is a cash cow, both in direct income, and indirectly by maintaining alumni loyalty. So it's almost always a respectable team, but never the be-all-to-end-all, like at say, Alabama (oops, they lost to Vanderbilt). And finally, to the Michigan fans as well as the haters, GO BLUE, WOLVERINES FOREVER !!!

Defense has been a massive letdown. I think we all knew the offense was going to struggle. No way this team beats Illinois, Oregon, OSU, or Indiana. At best you are looking at 2-4 to finish year which gets them to 6-6. Next year 3-9 is a definite possibility. No way Moore can make past three years. In year three they may only win 1 or 2 games.

I don’t think Michigan is as bad as people are saying. Just sitting in a base defense and play Tuttle at QB and they will finish 8-4 at worst. Get healthy, stay healthy and they can upset either OSU or Oregon. Next year though….better donate to that NIL fund and buy about 16 players from the portal.

Tuttle will not be playing by week 10 and most of the NFL guys ( will Johnson) mainly will sit more and more with whatever lingering issue he says he has kinda like JSN did with OSu in 23. I hope I'm wrong but you can see Will is already in his head with the media he got and his agents.

14:59 My sediments exactly. That's exactly why I've always said they should run the Flexbone with Orji. They have almost double the rushing yards than they do passing yards this season. They're not utilizing WR's. They ran out of the flexbone with a toss against Minnesota. So I know they've been trying it out. This team is run heavy with a crapload of talent at the running backs position. Between Mullings, Edwards, Bredeson, Cabana, Orji, Loveland, Klein, they've got a full-on power run game that could be utilized to stretch out the defense in different formations like pistol which they already run, Flexbone Shotgun. But, they have Kirk Campbell who's the scrubbiest of the scrub coordinators. That dude loves to run HB inside, or read option on 1st down. Throw to a flat on second down, ect, ect.

Was at the game. Zero creativity whatsoever and painful to watch. Just very ho hum even when Michigan took the lead. Husky stadium and the campus is beautiful. Fans were great.

“Wink Stinks” been yelling it all year since game 1 when I seen Don Brown schemes I knew we was in trouble and part of me is debating going to the Indiana game for my bday with a sign saying just that. I will always cheer and support but someone needs to tell him how horrible he is when it blows my mind how we get pressure on the QB with 4 man pass rush on 1st down stop the run on 2nd and 3rd and long what does he do oh idk calls a dumb blitz leaving our average dbs minus will Johnson on an Island for a first down and then starts the process all over again idk the stats but I bet he gives up the most 1st down on 3rd downs in college absolutely pathetic GO BLUE

Sick of the negativity from the fanbase after this loss. Yoder too. To say that there was no effort is nonsense. This game could have gone either way. One less slip. A throw by Tuttle 3 feet to the left. A ref that does his job calling pass interference. A few of those things change, or maybe just one, and we would see a different result. People act surprised as if we didn't know what was likely before the season even started. Tons of new starters and an offensive line that was entirely new. New coaches too. Did anybody really expect it to roll like last year? The only thing that was a surprise in this game is that after Orji proved unable to spark the offense, Tuttle came in and played amazingly well. Three scoring drives in a row. Sure, he screwed up eventually with a pick and a fumble. Shit happens. He's been injured and needs to get his feet wet. If you're expecting perfection, just become an Alabama fan. Oh, wait. There's highs and lows in football. That's what makes it fun.

Overreaction? How about underwhelmed and under reacting? Michigan's season is already done because they plan on starting Jack Tuttle - that's the problem. The gravity of the decision from Sherrone Moore to promote Kirk Campbell to offensive coordinator knowing he wasn't even a line coach, but rather a myopic focus - a damn QB coach! It hit him when he realized the quarterback he had been growing for the last 3 years, With the system that got him a national championship because the quarterback was at least mobile wasn't getting first team reps, because his QB coach turned OC is clueless about a running game. Therefore, would not know what to do in an RPO scheme with a DT-QB that's when the push begin to undermine Alex Orji - all with the straw man narrative that he lacks passing ability.... which he doesn't need because he's a different type of quarterback. The priority is different, it's the RPO run is the staple.. the pass, if needed is the option... It is the most fundamentally disingenuous thing that shades what they did to Richrod, finding a coach to bring in the spread offense and then micromanage them right out the door.... by looking in the rear view mirror when they should have been moving forward too concerned about subjective things. Instead of the objective, which was to bring in an effective offense, which during that time, michigan did not have - I hope it doesn't turn out to be the case because Michigan paid a heavy but well deserved penalty for having done that to him. They just need to chalk this season up and get to the end of it. Warde Manuel needs to put a shot across the bow to Sherrone Moore about his decision-making.. because it is going to severely impact the recruiting now. Then they need to fire Kirk Campbell, Moore Had no business advancing him in the first place, and they need to read the riot act to Wink Martindale, who really is less of a problem than Campbell is... And steer clear of these pocket passers - that is not the system. they had been developing. You'd have thought Michigan would have learned something?

Face it dude had his shot he is no QB he cannot read a D and has horrible instincts he doesn't even know when to take off Tuttle moved / ran better than Orji who is a so called Milroe type. He ain't Milroe not even in the Bama system. I really wish he could have would have been. A system good or bad doesn't mean you can't do absolutely nothing at some point a legit QB will just make plays. The biggest issue with this team is game prep and coaching. I can’t understand it as these aren’t “new” coaches. Moore has been here and shouldn’t have taken such a big step backwards. It is truly frustrating to see how unprepared this team is week to week for game day. I truly hope this two week reset allows them to get the ship righted. Go Blue!!!
