The Great Escape!! 🤭😜🤩💃🏻
I take the freshly milled cedar strapping out to the cliff location, I install the last anchor bolt through the post and into bedrock, using my Bluetti power station, and finish off the cross bracing of the deck (well, mostly. I need to install one more).
Time to move onto the tyvek, finishing that off and working towards installing the foam insulation. I did cut open one window and temporarily install it cuz the tyvek is DRIVING ME INSANE! LOL.
The pack rats ruined by live edge counter. 😔
I whip out some siding and let me know your thoughts!!!
I am leaning most heavily towards the vertical siding option, which was my original plan. Because it was my original plan, I cut the logs at 8', not 10' (perfect for vertical, but not so much horizontal). I would also need to use more of the special cedar to cover the walls vs the vertical, sooooo, yeah, it's kind of a tricky one and hard for me to decide. I honesty like both options but my curiosity for the vertical might get me in the end.
Anyway...
So I was supposed to be a 'super woman' of sorts in my outfit, not so much a Dracula (like my friend Dale thinks I look like, lol).
Seeking names for her!!! 😜. What should we call her?!?!?
As always, thanks a bunch for watching and I'll see you in the next video!
M 💕

I would definitely go with horizontal boards for the siding. 1) it would match the shed and 2) water will shed down and not get between the boards and the house wrap which would set you up for rot.

GO VERYICAL!! I like the vertical reverse board and batten. Built our house in 1990 with the standard vertical board and batten. No issues of rot. My dad told me to put a bevel on the bottom of the boards that made the end of the board pointed, bevel toward the house. Point on the outside. This gives the water a way to drip off instead of soaking back into the bottom of the board causing rot. GO VERTICAL!!!!

A couple options on how to incorporate vertical live edge siding. - Do something like wayne scotting (just horizontal lap siding with a cap plate/board) at the base of the wall (come up the wall about three feet). Then do your life edge vertical siding from the top of the cap plate/board to the top of the wall. I'd overlap the vertical siding by at least an inch or lay it over the top of plywood sheeting. (Yes, I know, that means a lot more wood.) - Do something like a Tudor style face. Run the siding horizontal, but have vertical live edge pieces

Horizontal shiplap siding would definitely stand up to the weather better than vertical siding...for the same reasons that shingle roofs are installed in an "overlap" method. Water and snow will sheet off od shiplap, but wont on vertical siding.

I knew you’d bust outta that shed one way or the other! Gotta admit, l admire pretty much all that you do. Getting out and about the way you do, you don’t cower at anything it seems. Being out alone in the forest on the edge of a mountain… l truly admire your talents and abilities to be creative, push forward and conquer pretty much anything. I’ve dealt with anxiety and panic attacks most of my adult life, doing even the most common task or activities one would call normal can on some days be challenging. Watching you has pushed me out of my bubble to try things l normally would not do. Or just give up out of fear. Thank you for being such a huge inspiration. PS: l do like the vertical… not everything has to match, as far as having horizontal siding like your tiny cabin in back. Either way, l’m sure what ever you choose, will look just great :)

One of the many things I like about watching your videos is that they are not boring. They to me are exciting. Innovative. Keeping in the spirit of Michygoss. Got to thinking the vertical hung boards would break up the continuity of the warming shed horizontal installed boards. Perhaps you could after installing those boards on west side of cabin where the sun hits build a ledge of sorts to hang those solar panels on to keep them off the deck and out of the way when you are walking on the deck. Looking forward to next video.

I like the idea of a few feet of horizontal siding, a ledger, and then vertical the rest of the way up. Best of both worlds, and some continuity with the shed, while still being different. I'm concerned about moisture penetration with the vertical though. One thing is for sure, I'd never be able to build this while designing it on the fly like you're doing. I'd want it all planned out. Obviously you are doing planning as you go in your head, so there is "a plan", but if it was me, I'd need to have more of it worked out beforehand. Great job!

U sing a 1 gallon pump up sprayer apply several coats of used diesel engine oil to all the under pinning's, Or use a paint roller. It works better than store bought treatments. Vertical needs Bats, Remember to only screw batts between the siding boards so they can shrink and move as needed. Mix it up and do both, you only need short horizontal boards around window walls.

Anchoring up right to rock-good idea. I might have used 2 "L" brackets instead of a bolt thru the middle which might split. You could use 2- "L" and put them on the anchor bolt like "washers" under the nut so they would L on either side of the upright. You're very hard working, but I would expect no less from a super hero. Mighty Michy
