@bing bingbung But you have to be fair buddy, its leveldesign and mechanics as well as the overall gameplay were pretty good. I wish more (coop) shooters would be that well made. So what YB lacks in story it makes up for its gameplay. However i think Wolfenstein 3 will undo the damage.

@@snazzyjovialwyrm3314 Weirdly enough i found it was the exact opposite. To be fair tough, you do have a point here so don´t think i completely disagree with you. However the Machinegames Wolfenstein games always had huge balancing issues which were at their peak in WS2. YB kinda fixed it since now that you´re on par with the enemies and you have a partner by your side, you can play much more aggressive this time. I recently finished the game and in retrospect i also think a standalone singleplayer game with a few changes here and there would have been better, but what we have right now is miles away from the catastrophy everyone describes it as. It´s just a spin off not being as good as the main games. Assault Horizon didn´t kill ace combat, Judgement didn´t kill gears of war and YB won´t certainly be much of a problem for future wolfenstein games, either.

I've always wonder if that means - The soldiers killed her without even letting her speak (shoot first, ask questions later) - "Whisper" is more metaphorical, and means she stood firm upon interrogation and did not say anything about whom she was harboring I hope it means the latter because that is a nice touch of even a "weak" person standing strong.

@@Fosi94 I think the same. Also if I can bring up the french lyrics (it's an old man, but no matters) "he died without surprise". The french lyrics focus on the inevitability of that death (but with the implied idea that he didn't speak) while the english version make it clear that torture wasn't enough to make them talk. Plus, but that is extrapolation on my part, the fact that they are old means they've at least known WW1 so the idea that the Germans were the ennemi was very deeply rooted for them (it thankfully changed so we can have the Europe we know now, but we can catch my drift)

So much emotions in his track: The feeling of being scared; The feeling of having fear to stand up for what's worth living for; The feeling of loss, depression, sadness and defeat; The feeling that you are forced to give up at a corner and to submit like a slave. But at the same time, there's a part of you that wanna snap saying: I CAN'T STAND WITH THIS BULLSHIT! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! So you stand up against what scares you, what brings you fear, what demoralizes you. Incoming the feeling to fight The feeling of anger and hate against your oppressors The feeling of rage from your endless torture The feeling of vengeance for what you lost The feeling of having the will to live and moving forward. The feeling to protect what you hold dear to you and what's left to hold. In all that is dark and grimm for Humanity, there is one thing that cannot be destroyed... Hope. And I think that's one of the many reasons Blazcowicz is fighting for.

I sincerely think this is the best end credits song I've ever heard. It just matches the global feeling of Old Blood so much. It's so depressing and shows how lonely B.J. is in his battle, since 3 out of the 4 allies he comes to met dies in front of him, letting him carrying alone the burden of saving the world from the wicked hold of the seemingly unstoppable Nazi forces, and yet it has (just like Blazko) this "We won't give up anyway" vibe... To me, this song resumes perfectly the final mindstate of the game: "I've been through hell and back, I've seen surreal horrors and discovered the darkest secrets, I've lost my friends and seen my world set ablaze by the Nazis... But now there's hope to turn the tides as we're heading for a final mission to save the world..." As B.J. says himself: "I feel the weight of the world pushing me down. I try to carry it nonetheless...one last time...then I can rest." ... And sadly, he couldn't have been more wrong.

This song marks the end of the old wolfenstein. The Castle Wolfenstein games to Wolfenstein 3D to Wolfenstein 2009, and loosely connected(not really in the timeline, but using names and characters from the old timeline to the new Machine Games timeline) The New order and The Old Blood. It’s the end of an era spanning 3 decades. Though Youngblood sucked, I can only hope they make the final game in the machine games timeline, though I hope they make 2 more, one about the second American revolution, and the end of the Third/Fourth Reich. I hope for a comeback for the machine games timeline and a strong close.

This seems to be a translation of a French resistance song called La Complainte du Partisan, with some bits of the Chant des Partisans mixed in together. And all of it modernised and more punchy... This has a strong meaning to me as a Frenchman, my great-grandfather had been arrested and deported by the Wehrmacht for various acts of sabotage, and my great-grandparents on the other side of the family had been saved from arrest by a couple of German bakers... A strong song if it manages to evoke all of this to me, outstanding job, Mr Gordon, thank you very much.

Your story reminds me of what happened to my grandfather. He was on the side of the republicans during the spanish civil war 1936-39. He was from Asturias from a little village in nowhere. One day they were preparing a battle against the fascist somewhere in the north of spain. He was just moving stuff around when suddenly a lieutenant approched him. They soon found out they were from the same area and he asked him if he want to join him on a tour to get some infos from the hq, well he said yes and was thinking to come later to help the rebels organize things. He heard later that day, that they got attacked a few hours later. The nationalists killed them all, no survivors. That happened to him before he got married, before he had kids. My father told me that story few years after he died. I'm here because of luck and the spontaneity of my grandfather.

Despite many might say otherwise, the soundtrack is the backbone of a game's soul. I loved playing Wolfenstein TNO and TOB, especially for the music. It really strikes a special chord in my soul. I can't listen to this without shedding a tear and it's a pain I like to feel. There's struggle, desperation, resolve and hope in those notes. Notes that are brush strokes coming in my ears, painting the canvas in my mind and the picture is breathtaking.

In my opinion, this is one of Mick's best lyrical songs. It matches the ending of WTOB, you win and think the Allies have a chance at winning, a moment of solace, but we all know how that turns out. The beat drop brings back the gameplay of Wolfenstein and BJ's undying endurance to win and do what's right. Bethesda honestly does not deserve you after what they had done.

Fun little side fact to read while listening to this masterpiece, that you probably didn't know and most likely won't care about cuz it has absolutely no use for you: The word "Partisan" is actually a Persian/Iranian word, and it consists of "parti" which refers to Parthians, a group of Iranians that beat the shit outta Selucids and Romans alike and created the Arshkanian/Parthian empire, and the suffix "-san", which in Iranian means "like", so basically, a partisan, is a warrior that fights like the Parthians, and the Parthians were actually known for their impressive guerilla warfare tactics.

English history is invaders invade, build up and melt into the population, repeat. Civics side, it's peasants get angry, king tries to passively kill them with war, they win the war, king has to give them rights, repeat.

SPOILERS FOR WOLFENSTEIN II: THE NEW COLOSSUS After playing Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, I notice some of the lyrics were kinda foreshadowing to the events of that game (with different circumstances of course) It wasn't intentional, but it's a perfect fit for a prequel game. "An old woman gave us shelter, kept us hidden in the garret, then the soldiers came; she died without a whisper." - Caroline Becker in the beginning. "Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing, through the graves the wind is blowing, freedom soon will come; then we'll come from the shadows." - Revolution in the ending

The lyrics weren't foreshadowing considering that this is a translation of a WW2 french resistance song, but I wouldn't be surprised if the lyrics were part of the inspiration for the series' themes and story, especially since it was the guys over at Machine Games who wanted this in the game and asked Mick Gordon to create a rendition of the song for the Old Blood in the first place meaning they knew of the song already. Their game's story and themes are clearly inspired by the acts of rebellion shown by freedom fighters during the Nazi occupation of France, so parallels between a WW2 freedom fighter song and their story makes sense.

Besides having a great (god-like even) ability to convey emotion into music and make it fit within the setting of the game, Mick Gordon also is an amazing OST composer in a way, that tracks he produces fit amazingly in story-heavy games like Wolfenstein, they fit to the cutscenes they are not overbearing, they just amplify what is happening on your screen. He could easily compose a whole OST for a movie no worse than John Williams or Hans Zimmer can. The movie-like quality of this one hit me particularly. I would even go as far as to say, that this track wouldn't stand out in one of earlier U.N.K.L.E. albums which always had a OST vibe to them. That slow beginning or ending where drum and guitar parts are gradually fading out out to leave an orchestral string section playing in - Classic James Lavelle style.

This war in Ukraine is completely different than the German invasion of France that produced this song. The Russians are, primarily, trying to take back territory where most of the people speak Russian and consider themselves Russian citizens. The Ukrainian government has been shelling its "own" citizens with artillery and has killed thousands of innocent civilians. This has been going on for several years prior to the "invasion" when Putin decided that enough was enough. The Ukrainians are not the good guys here. I'm not saying the Russians are "good" either, but if you have to make it into a moral comparison, it's "the bad guys" vs. "the very bad guys", with the Ukrainians being "the very bad guys".

This melody heard without even knowing about the game. Incredibly strong! Courageous! And a little aggressive! Frisson!

@@kjj26k sure, I'm from India. Yes, our army played a huge role in the asian theatre, but the British ruled with an iron first over us for 200 years, so world war 1 and 2 were like a drop in the ocean of acts of inhumanity. So much so that we had a faction of rebels join the japanese and the axis powers against the British Empire.

This is everything art is supposed to be; thrilling, poignant, and the encapsulation of an entire era in a single composition. Almost 5 years later and dozens upon dozens of listens and somehow this song still retains its impact. It’s an incredibly grim portrait of a time we were fortunate to never experience ourselves and a reminder that even in the darkest of times there is reason to hope and that there will always be someone who will rise up when no one else can or will.

The monster never dies no matter how many times you kill it. It just sheds its skin and changes form. Can feel the weight of the world pushing me down. I try to carry it nonetheless. One last time. Then I can rest.

For a musician it's quite hard to keep the musical harmony and the coherence with the video game scenario at the same time. But starting with "Adrift" in the New Order, until the end of "The Partisan", a musical adventure goes on side by side with the adventure in the game. Two games tell us a story, a very same story which is written by Emmanuel d'Astier de la Vigerie in 1943. From the very beginning of the first game (the New Order) the music is also telling us the same story. Injecting this feeling to the heart of a video game player is very hard job to achieve for a musician. Thank you for all those precious time of yours that you spent while composing these beautiful soundtrack albums. On the other hand "The Partisan" is the ending point of two games; the last stop in the musical adventure (and I'm not saying that because the credits are shown in the game at the same time). I can easily connect the musical atmosphere in Adrift and this song. The Partisan is one of the best game songs I ever listened. Musically, I didn't like the sound of distortion in fact, but it completely fits in the game; so I can say nothing about that. The acoustic guitar intro of the song starts the depression by itself and in the end strings maximize that feeling. I loved the string arrangements and the vocals of Tex Perkins which are full of emotion. Also I must say that, even though this version is completely different from Leonard Cohen version of the song, I still get the same impression from both songs; same feeling, same dark and depressed war atmosphere and more importantly, same requiem. Again, thank you for all those perfect music!!! I'm looking forward to hear more tunes from you!

So many games and films and series completely underrate the impact that score can have on the tone and emotions and experience of the art form. The game was great, the music made it epic.. and that's been the case with EVERY game I've played where Mick's been involved. I got tears in my eyes with the power of this song.
