At a time when the Western world expects great gains from the Ukrainian counteroffensive, Yevhen Prigozhin's fighters from the Wagner group announce the alleged capture of Bakhmut. According to US President Biden, Russia lost a hundred thousand soldiers in this operation. It will be extremely difficult to restore such losses, because, first of all, the Russian army has lost many commanders of the lower and middle ranks, says retired Australian Army General and military expert Mick Ryan in an interview with RFE/RL.
"Ukrainian armed forces were underestimated throughout the war. And I think we need to be more realistic about the fact that the AFU is very capable and is probably the best army in the world," Ryan says as he explains why he thinks the Ukrainian military's offensive could surprise the world and primarily Russia.
In a conversation with Sashko Shevchenko, the expert also explained how Storm Shadow long-range missiles will change the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces, whether the White House is ready to freeze the war, and whether the threat of a nuclear strike from Russia has decreased due to the effective work of the Patriot systems?
