I was fortunate enough to take a behind the scenes tour of the Hall. They're are dozens of boxed autographed Mickey Mantle baseballs in the basement. What a day. I won't forget.

Joe D was a case study. Great player but a weird, self absorbed guy. I remember sitting in my seat on a flight and opening my newspaper to read that he had passed. Sad day for me. But to his credit he was one of the few humans on this planet that gave Marilyn the respect she deserved.

This photo is both timeless and iconic. The absolutely finest photo of Joe Di Maggio and Mickey Mantle I've yet seen, a magnificent image. We must offer a heartfelt tribute to the late Steve Flesser, for taking this legendary photo of Joe and Mickey.

I Just a kid when I first payed attention to baseball. I wanted to be like these great players of the past. Even though I was a Reds fan, the pinstripes of the Yankees grabbed attracted me more and more to the game of baseball.

I visited "old" Yankee Stadium in 2007. While there, i took the tour of Monument Park, where Yankee Greats are honored. That day my wife took a picture of me (in my Mantle jersey), standing between Joe's #5 plaque and Mickey's #7 plaque. I framed it later and put the caption "In Good Company" beneath the picture. It remains on display in my mancave to this day.

At the end of a tour of Lousiville Slugger factory they allowed me to pick one of several bats used by the greats for a picture. Knowing I was a proud Canadian they assumed I would take Joey Votto and I almost did. Then I surprised them by taking the guy I grew up with to love baseball. Mr. Mantle.

Joe didn’t even speak to Mickey in his rookie season even though their lockers were right next to each other. Joe regarded Mickey as a rival and resented him. Mickey was beloved by his teammates. Joe was not.

DiMag was furious that Mantle was introduced AFTER him on this Old Timers Day. He threatened to never return to one again. The next year, after Mantle, Frank Messer introduced Number 5 to the crowd, cryptically saying, "For obvious reasons, we save this next player for last....."

Dude, you are a disgrace. Joe was a WW2 veteran, very patriotic, who lost 3 prime years in his legendary career. You basically quote hearsay as fact, when you never even met Joe, who is a hero to many Americans. For my money as long as Babe Ruth was dead, the announced order should be Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, then finally the legendary Joe DiMaggio.

Joe DiMagio was a humorless, jealous self-centered and self important creep who never helped Mickey as a rookie and was not very friendly to rookies, including Mickey. He was jealous of Mickey because he was getting a lot of attention when he came up! He was also partially responsible for Mickey's catastrophic injury to his knee in 1951 when he wouldn't let Mickey handle the fly ball pop up that Willie May's hit!
