Who is ready to head to the Magic Kingdom for everyone’s favorite After Hours event, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party? This week, we are headed to Sleepy Hollow Refreshments to recreate the party-exclusive Madame Leota Séance Candle treat.
This dessert is inspired by on of the Haunted Mansion’s most infamous ghosts, Madame Leota. The push pop is comprised of red velvet cake layered in between a cookies and cream - cream cheese butter cream, topped with a candy coating and orange buttercream flame. The treat resembles the look of a melting candle and is adorned with the familiar Haunted Mansion wallpaper design.
With spooky season coming up, this is a great treat to make to celebrate the season. All of the information on how I made this treat can be found below, including links to the products purchased.
What you will need:
Cake Push Pop Holders - www.amazon.com...
Haunted Mansion Wallpaper design
-Cookies and Cream Buttercream Recipe*: sallysbakingad...
*Modification - I added 8-10 chocolate sandwich cookies
Ingredients:
1/2 box red velvet cake mix
1/4 c water
1/2 c vegetable oil
1 1/2 eggs
3 c powdered sugar
1/2 c unsalted butter, cubed and room temperature
1 block (8 oz) cream cheese, cubed and room temperature
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pinch of kosher salt
12 oz white candy melts
8-10 chocolate sandwich cookies
Wilton orange food gel coloring
Baking Method:
Prepare red velvet cake mix to the boxes instructions. Set aside to cool completely.
In a stand mixer fit with a paddle attachment, beat cream cheese and butter for 5-7 minutes on medium-high speed, pausing occasionally to scrape down the sides.
Adding in batches, incorporate the powdered sugar on a low speed. Repeat until powdered sugar is incorporated.
Add in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, beating for another 1-2 minutes. Remove the mixing bowl from the stand mixer and set aside.
Reserve a small portion of the buttercream (1/8 - 1/4 cups), dying with 1-2 drops of orange food dye. Add to a piping bag fit with a star tip and set aside.
In a sandwich bag, add chocolate sandwich cookies and use a rolling pin to crush the cookies into a fine grain powder.
Using a spatula, fold the cookie crumbs into the remaining buttercream. Do not over mix. Fill a piping bag and set aside.
With one of the push pops holders, cut circles into the cake, ensuring that each holder will have two slices.
In a candy melter, add 12 oz of white candy melts. Once fully melted, remove from the melter and allow to cool on the counter.
Add one slice of the cake to the bottom of each holder, followed by a layer of buttercream. Top with the second cake slice. Top with another layer of buttercream (if desired).
Top each push pop with a dollop of the candy melt, allowing the candy to drip down the sides of each push pop to give the melted candle effect.
Place each push pop in a secure stand (I used a wire baking rack) and chill in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes or until hardened.
Using the orange buttercream, pipe an orange flame to the top of each push pop.
