A lovely tribute. I was so saddened to hear of Brad's passing. The Specials were and are still a big part of my life and musical experience. Gone but not forgotten, sleep tight JB x

He wasn't just a drummer, he was an artist - the best, bar none. I was out celebrating my birthday when I found out that he'd passed away the day before, I didn't feel like celebrating after that - 'idol' doesn't even come close. Continue to rest in peace, Brad, you were a one-off.

If it wasn't for JB I wouldn't be playing drums at all...the 1st song i heard was "It doesn't make it alright" and I grew up surrounded by the Who and the Clash and Bob Dylan...I was 10 years old and that was it...He defined that Sound by mixing bits of northern soul and Reggae... and in the process trademarking that Specials sound...with his timbale like rimshots fused together with powerhouse toms...I was gutted when he passed... and as much as I love the specials... they haven't been the same since John died...proving that he was simply irreplaceable...R.I.P J.B.🥁

I agree Shane. I was a little ska/reggae drummer in the seventies/early eighties and I learned a lot from him. You can hire a few good drummers but they can't replace John Bradbury,

I worked with John at a software company in Coventry in 1987 , Once I said 'are you any relation of the that guy in the Specials' he said no ! But he did take me to a shop in /coventry that sold discount Doc Martens and got me a really cheap pair of cherry red Docs !

I was actually quite flabbergasted that Lynval, Terry and Horace continued playing in the Specials without John Bradbury. John was so important to the Specials sound. His rimshot playing belonged to the sound of the Specials and will be missed . There's no drummer who can replace him.

John use to work on the reggae and punk section of the Coventry Virgin record store. Every time I rushed down their to buy the latest punk 45 he'd lovingly sneer and try to ply me reggae :-). Always seemed a sweet guy.
