Micro Jigging is AWESOME | 17 Different Species | Slow Pitch Jigging | Offshore Fishing
Head offshore fishing with Johnny, Pete, and Jose on a micro jigging adventure. The guys pack up the light gear and jigs ranging from 20g-100g in search of whatever will bite. Micro Jigging is similar to slow pitch jigging but scaled way down. This style of fishing will open up a new world of offshore angling in shallow depths. For the guys in the gulf that don’t want to run long distances offshore fishing but still want to drop a jig, micro jigging is be the answer. It is action fishing at its finest and can produce quality fish of the table fare variety.

*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

Great video! There is nothing more fun the. Hooking and landing good sized fish on light rods, and nothing more fun than jigging all day with a light outfit. Some of us have been slow jigging in Alaska for over a decade though using our salmon rods. With our massive tide changes we are often fighting huge tide rips, but when you can get down with 50-100 gm jigs during slack tides you will hook up on pretty much everything from rock fish to salmon to king cod and even halibut. I’m looking forward to building g some proper slow pitch rods. Over the years I’ve been going to lighter rods and reels. I’m with you on the advantages of lever drag reels. Once I used one I was sold. With the strength of braid And 300+ yard capacity you can get 15 oz and lighter reels with 20+ pounds of drag there is no reason to use bigger reels. We are living in the best of times for offshore tackle

Great video as usual! I have a general question. Where do you put you slow pitch jig when you’re moving from place to place? On my larger butterfly style jig rod I just put the single hook in the guide frame and wrap it with a neoprene wrapper. But the guides on the slow pitch Jigging Rod seem so small and fragile I’m not sure if I should do that. Any advice? Thanks
@JohnnyJigsTV
@JohnnyJigsTV 3 жыл бұрын
Hey BucktailBob, When we are making short moves I will wrap it with a jig wrap and stuff it in the rod holder or drop it in the bucket. If we are traveling a distance or at the end of the day I remove all the jigs and bottom hooks but leave the hooks attached to my leader. It's easy to spin the jigs on and off with a quality pair of split ring pliers so I prefer to remove the jigs than take a chance of damaging my rods. Hope that was helpful...Johnny

regarding hook placement, im usually a single assist hook in the top, to avoid snags, but last time, 9 out of 10 snappers we caught on 40 to 60gr jigs were getting hooked in the assist hooks of the tail.. also, mi friends had more jigs snagged on the bottom maybe because they were using spinning outfits and are less experienced than me (i was using my lexa winn 300) and i think conventionals/baitcasters are more sensitive in felling bottom and lifting before snagging if that makes sense..

That is a great video idea. I try to ensure the hooks can't be fouled up on each other. 4/0 and 5/0 are my go-to sizes for grouper and snapper. I tend to bump it up to 6/0 and go single on top and bottom in deeper water (500+). I will get into detail on this in a future video.

We've yet to find any form of SPJ that's not wildly entertaining and productive. The micro's are a great tool, especially for quick trips closer to shore or along jetties. At the risk of upsetting the purists, these are also fantastic for horizontal jigging. Cast out to boils around rocks. Lift, pause, reel, lift, pause, reel. Kind of a horizontal 'Z' shaped retrieve back to the boat.

I'm no expert on micro jigging, but its seems to be a game of sensitivity. I'm going to scale my line down even more so my jig can get down quicker and to deeper depths. My jig was moving well but I believe it will be better with the lighter line. As for the rod the soft tip was giving this really nice flicking motion that was translating to my jig. I would say you can use the heavier gear but will be more successful with the lighter set ups. Not to mention it's really fun on the lighter gear. I'm still digging in and learning but as I figure it out I will definitely share....Johnny

@@Prone-Ski_BX *Not an expert here either* You can do it with any rod, but the power transfer from rod to lure will be smoother when properly matched, ultimately giving the jig a smoother action. Both heavy and light rods will move a light jig, but the heavy rod will not impart natural like moves, rather quick jerks that can startle timid fish. On top of that, you will miss hits with less sensitive rods. With that being said, a power 1 can do this job, while allowing you to upsize your jigs a bit.

This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
