Microaggressions: remarks, questions, or actions made to people like us because of the colour of our skin. Though they are often done casually and without any intended harm they contain hidden insults and are based on racist stereotypes.
They are damaging because they are incessant and cumulative, like death by a thousand papercuts.

Please explain how am I supposed to find out someone's origins if asking it is offensive. Or is this something that should remain a secret?

@@DeeClara001 The fact that I'm having a conversation with someone proves that it's not a stranger. And for some reason I can have a conversation with people about a lot of topics BUT not about this one. Why is it forbidden?

@@MadMaxRoadFury Hello. Let me answer you from my perspective as a black person. I don't mind being asked where I'm from because i lived there for more than 30 years before coming to the UK and I'm not offended by it. But for people who were born, breed, grew up in the UK and are British, it can be annoying when they are asked where are you from, they mention a place in the UK and they are still being asked "where are you really from?". I will suggest everyone sticks to the first answer they are given and mind their business. If the person is your friend, with time you will get to know.

😂 I know it's not funny, but sometimes you just have to laugh it off your back. I can understand microaggressions when they're rare, innocent faux pas's with no malice behind them, but some employees launch them deliberately, maliciously, incessantly, unapologetically and actually enjoy putting subordinates on the back foot, whilst ensuring their own immunity from backlash. It's a form of entertainment for them and an added bonus if they're confronted because they can throw gaslighting into the mix by pleading confused innocence. That's when work environments become really toxic and it's time to jump ship... which may be exactly what they want you to do. You can't win. Best to find a well paying job that lets you work from home. Apparently, they're out there. 😁
