While I see the necessity for destroying the colony in your case, but it must be stressed that far from being pests wasps play an important role in pollination. They also predate on more damaging species thus benefiting the farmer and gardener. Some important orchids species totally rely on wasps for pollination.

Those wasps are very determined and resourceful chewing through the tape like that with their bolt cutter type jaws! The solvents through the vacuum cleaner are a bit dodgy though -as they are highly flammable!!

Wasps are very useful I realised after many years of hating them -I watched with amazement as they landed on my vegetable plants and carried away the caterpillars! They feed them to their young. Without wasps many of our plants would be eaten by grubs

are there any challenges to looking at bugs with microscopes that are exlusively lit from below? Are you restricted to looking only at the thinner/more transparent parts of the insects? I want to look at both bugs and microbes, would I be able to do that with a microscope like the Swift SW380T or would I need something else?

Re. the mystery of the `missing stinger’, it is possible you may have captured a male wasp and male wasps never have stings. The stings of the female worker wasps (also ants and bees) are actually modified ovipositors which are the tubular structures used for laying eggs and hence their absence amongst the males of the species. Females also tend to be slightly larger than males, again this is linked to reproduction Another difference between male and female wasps, which can be more clearly seen under the microscope, is the number of segments of their antennae, a male has thirteen segments on each while a female has only twelve.

don't know why people destroy wasp nests, i had one nest under a bench on my grandmother house and they were flying very close but i never got stung
@Microbehunter4 жыл бұрын
It would indeed not be a big problem, if it were only for the wasps. But the wasps destroy the insulation of the wall. (some birds as well, by the way and they had to fix bird-damage as well.....)

I love bees and I get along with solitary wasps. Community wasps are another story. I am fortunate in that I am not allergic to bee or wasp stings or I would not be here to write this. Some wasps built a nest over the door to my home. With my job I usually left before sunrise and returned after sunset to the wasps were not very active and I left them alone. But, noon one Saturday I was locking my door and I got stung twice in the back of the neck. I am 6 foot 4 inches tall (just shy of 2 meters) and I weigh 270 lbs (122kg). Those stings knocked me to my knees. For an instant I thought I had gotten hit by someone. I crawled away from the door as the wasps were starting to swarm. Wasps can leave a pheromone on you that will attract other wasps (just like killer bees). I felt sick to my stomach for a few hours and I had a headache for a couple of days (I did go see a doctor soon after I got stung to confirm I was not allergic). My plans for the day changed somewhat. My first shopping stop was to buy some wasp killer spray. That night I sprayed the entrance to the nest. I found over 50 dead wasps over the course of the next couple of days. If they had swarmed me I would have been in serious trouble. My neighbor's front door is right next to mine. He is elderly and in poor health. If he had been the one to get stung it would have been very bad for him. I love nature and living things. It is you and me, until it is you or me. Then it is just me. Sorry wasps.

@@markschippel7974 i also got stung few times but except redness and itchiness i didn't had any side effect, probably if i was allergic i didn't had same opinion about them, because one of my colleague got stung by a bee and he was alergic. in few minutes his sittuation got very severe that we had to call the ambulance

As in Germany wasps are protected by nature conservation laws it is strictly forbidden to kill an entire colony like you did in this video. There are high fees chared for that. If it's not possible to relocate the hive the removal needs to be at least done by some professional exterminator. As a Biologist you should have known that...
@Microbehunter3 жыл бұрын
Even in Germany the EUR 5000 penalty is rarely charged. The local fire department tours the village once a week (due to the high number of wasp nests) to exterminate the wasp nests with poison. Relocation is not possible when the wasps have settled down in the wall of the building, as was the case here. Once they have settled in the styrofoam insulation of the building, they are impossible to get rid of, and killing the colony then will result in an even higher number of casualties. The fire department has exterminated wasp nests that were far bigger than the one here. And: there are countless different wasp species and not all are endangered.

Good morning Sir, I have heard that after killing an animal immediately there can found a numerous bacterial in the flesh of that animal. Sir is it true? And can you magnify those bacteria in your next video. And is it good eat animal meat? Please suggest. Thanks
@Microbehunter Жыл бұрын
There are already countless bacteria on the living animal. When the animal is killed, the immune system of the animal stops working and the bacteria can reproduce fast. Therefore you must keep the meat cold (refrigerator) so that the bacteria can not reproduce. If you do not keep it cold, the meat will spoil quickly. Bacteria from the air will also start to grow on the meat. So your statement is generally correct, but the number of bacteria will increase not immediately, but over the next few hours, if the meat is not kept cold. @Microbehunter4 жыл бұрын
The best microscope is the one that you use the most often, and the one that you like using. Light microscopes can be very cheap to very, very expensive. I am now saving for one that costs EUR 27 000. You can not watch viruses, as they are too small. If you want to watch bacteria, then you need one that costs about EUR 200-300. Try the Swift SW380T or similar.
