Good video, well explained. My house was built in 1998 and I often wondered why microbore radiator feeds were fitted but curiously only on the downstairs rads. Upstairs are all 15mm feeds. After watching your video I don't think I'll ever be tempted to work on my 10mm pipes. Thanks for posting this.

My 80's house has microbore. Recently had my old F/E boiler system converted to a combi, leaks started springing up on some rads, and luckily was able to tighten the joints, all working good now. Wanted to get TRV's installed on the rads, but local plumber isn't keen to do it. A video on how to fit TRV's to microbore rads would be awesome!

*2 Quick questions.* What sort of fitting would you recommend to join microbore in a ceiling/floor void? Compression or solder joint? Thanks for the video. Very informative. What's the self cleaner you referred to in the video. Ours works fine but a clean through would be needed after 25 year 😂
@dereton334 жыл бұрын
A soldered joint is best. Fernox or Sentinal are the best cleaners.

Thanks for video! So i have recently done a Power flush on a system 15mm upstairs and microbore down stairs no heating down stairs now they have. 1 day later they call me to tell me there are rads that are now not getting hot I’m wondering is it the trv pins that have got stuck? Also when I was there one rad never got hot I opened the drain off to let some water in and then it got hot, do you think I When I go back I should drain out each rad to try and get hot water through? Really stuck as customer is demanding a answer,
@dereton33 Жыл бұрын
Test all the pins first. This sounds more like air so try pulling air through each rad .

Nice to see microbore being mentioned, very helpful. Quick question... do you drain down a microbore system the same way as a normal 15mm system ?

Yes Mike.

Hello, I have microbore fitted to my property built in 2004 and three radiators are cold the service engineer is going to add a system cleaner and then refill. I am thinking of asking him to fit a magnaclean professional 2 onto the system, would you agree this would be a good idea?

Yes certainly

My house was built in the year 2000 and it has microbore. I had the floor up once and it seems to have a 15mm loop with just microbore coming off to feed the rads, looks more like cost cutting from the installers to me. I had a combi boiler fitted in 2009 and had the system power flushed.
@andrewgilbride75464 жыл бұрын
I have the same and every time I touch the microbore to the radiators I end up with a leak where they join the 15mm !

Great advice as ever. I find it a pain when the install c- - boy fits the 8 mm pipe above the skirting board making the drain off connection inline with the wall you cannot use that drain connection.

My old house had it, no problems apart from one pipe would always block - was one job I never got to renewing - moved instead ! If you could do a vid on emptying a filter that'd be lovely

most likely the little copper tubes are run un-isolated through concrete /cement and have started to leak.
@nikolapetrov9662 жыл бұрын
Do you think a power flush would work on 8mm pipework? As due to the small size there would be poor circulation. And you might get blockages around the system while flushing it,also leaks... Thank you for the video.
@dereton332 жыл бұрын
Still worth a go, although it is not cheap, but then your only alternative is to renew the whole lot, megga expensive.

I have microbore and in the process of renovating. I tightened a leaking TRV and twisted the microbore. How can I overcome this?

Cut the pipe out and part renew to the valve.

i was starting to think my house was the only one in the country with microbore could not find a decent video explanantion anywhere thank you for a very good explanation of the system in my house cowboys originally fitted one manifold on the ground floor on a 2 storey house!, the boiler has been changed a few years ago from back boiler to wall mounted and has been working ok for many years but now im starting to loose 2/3 radiators heating downstairs. funny that they are the shorter runs from the manifold. i am considering re-piping downstairs in 15mm with t-offs for the upstairs microbore feeding the rads.(to reduce damage and mess) do you think that would be an option?
@dereton333 жыл бұрын
Yes that is a good worthwhile option.

i accidentally hit a microbore pipe with a rubber hammer and gave the pipe a dent in it under my floorboards, it isn't a fully crushed dent but is a quite a little dent, would this cause a leak?
@dereton333 жыл бұрын
No, a crease is more likely to cause one but you should be ok. I have seen many microbore pipes with dents in them and very rarely do they leak.

I'm confused. Most microbore systems were installed by professionals because it is cheap and cheerful if it is designed correctly. All Wimpey Homes had them in the eighties. My DIY was small bore, and I did not dare use microbore because in the distant past they used manipulative joints which is a skilled technique for pipe joints. Great commentary on the problems tiny pipes and big pumps cause. Cheers.
