My 4th grade teacher was from here. 20 years later, that memory popped in to my head out of nowhere.

Howartson is doing a desperately important act of valuing his language and helping to put it in use, saving perspectives and nuances that are hidden within a language. I know in Tsalagi, the language of my ancestors, the same spelling of a word can be pronounced 5 different ways and have even more meanings within context. Nuances of meaning that have no exactly comparison in english. I am more than glad to see the work being done to affirm and value the unique knowledge people have and what they have accomplished.

For those who don’t know.. Nukuoro, Kapigamarangi, NZ Maori, Moriori, Cook island, Tahiti, Tokelauan, Niue, Tuvalu, Hiva, Taumoko, Anuta, Tikopia, west Futuna, west uvea, Sikiana, Aniwa, Nukumanu, Takuu, Nukuria, Emae, Makura, Mele-Ifira island, Rennell Is, Bellona islands, Hawai’i Ni’ihau, Wallis & Futuna, and Tongan can basically understand each other.. Obviously there’s way more to it and i mean no disrespect. Plus I left out a few islands (Austral islands, Mangareva, Rapa Nui, Samoa!) but you all get what I’m trying to say. Kia Ora

Just to let you all know that kapingamarangi and Nukuoro are Sāmoic languages and are related to Sāmoan by culture, lineage and customs.

That's the attitude of a real Micronesian right there. Nervous, timid. Talk very little. Answer questions with yes or no, or nod of the head.... Yessssssss.... don't worry about trying to explain things bro. We were not made or meant to explain. If someone else wants to study our culture, they'll just have to live it and really experience it to their core. That's how I feel about our society. Greetings from Houk.

Our language is unique. Why? we are a part of Pohnpei Island, however our native tongue is more far from Pohnpeian language. Therefore, according to our elders that, we the people of Kapingamarangi are descendant of south pacific-ans and so the people of Nukuoro. In my own theory, Kapingamarangi and Nukuoro are "Micro-poly". (Just saying). Hope to read your book someday.

Micronesian, Chuukese Ew Ruu Ulungát Ruu'anu Limu Onu Fiisu Walu Tii'u Ēngon & kapingamarangi islanders are not Samoans by ancestry. They are more Tongans & Tahitian in some ways. Ofcourse it might also seem like they are more Samoans because they are a Mix of Micro&Poly ancestry.
