One of those videos that I'm asked for, why don't you compare those cheap microphones to others so we can understand the differences?
Here it is!
I'm comparing the already tested and extra cheap Behringer C2 to a couple of studio legends like the vintage Akg c451e, there is a huge difference in price because the C2's are for sale at about 50/60 euros (dollars), depending on the moment, and the 451 are at 7/800 hundred new, but these are vintage, so are probably going to cost more.
I've recorded them straight into my Rme Fireface Ufx2 using the front inputs, same level, same distance, pan L/R at almost 60%. NoFx, no Reverb, no Compression.
I played Fingerstyle and with a pick, with two guitars already used (my handbuilt Chatelier and my old Gibson J-45) and often repeated the same licks, so you can hear the microphones capturing the exact same notes.
Remember that you're hearing a pro player with great guitars and a very good soundcard.
What you hear is probably (use good speakers or at least headphones) volume and tonal differencies, let me know in the comments what you think!

Thank you for the video! My impressions from the video: AKG has a fuller sound, has more bass and high, more detailed, but the Behringer is perfectly useable too, especially for the price.

Ciao, come pasta sonora mi sembrano incredibilmente simili, non ci vuole molto intervenendo sul suono dei C2 per farli suonare ancora più simili agli AKG, guardando la differenza di prezzo non avrei mai creduto a così poca differenza nel suono, possibile che questi C2 siano costruiti forse già per copiare il suono degli AKG?

Non credo, i microfoni suonano tutti molto più simili di quanto si pensi, almeno al primo ascolto, dipende poi da dove ascolti.

La differenza principale che arriva tramite la mia cuffia (B&W chiusa) è senz'altro un rigonfiamento delle basse frequenze da parte degli AKG; in generale un lieve "maggior volume;" sembra di sentire anche frequenze alte più "luminose" ma non sono sicuro, potrebbe solo essere la conseguenza del maggior volume che arriva da AKG. Ho fatto una prova guardando dapprima velocemente con il cell senza cuffia (ovviamente senza percepire differenze). Poi a distanza di qualche ora ho sentito da PC con la cuffia e ad occhi chiusi. Quando ho percepito il rigonfiamento delle basse (dopo 3-4 volte) ho aperto gli occhi per capire quale coppia fosse a produrlo e così ho potuto capire che era proprio la AKG. Spero di essermi spiegato. Grazie come sempre per questi spunti

Ho sentito qualcosa di diverso (a vantaggio degli akg) con l'uso del plettro....sento un po' più il rumore della penna sulle corde e più definizione in generale.....per registrazioni professionali (ma veramente professionali) spendere 20 volte di più può avere un senso......per tutti gli altri contesti direi proprio di no. Sono contento perché ho i C2 comprati qualche anno fa quando Amazon te li mandava a casa con 40€😊.

Io ho lavorato co entrambe i microfoni e conosco bene la differenza tra i 2 ( oddio le poi un prerogativa tipica dei mic eco in generale)...ma ci devi lavorare x capire bene , lo devi "sentire". I C2 vanno benissimo chiariamoci, fino a quando nn provi altro!

Secondo me, quando si registra una chitarra acustica che dovrà essere mixata successivamente con altri strumenti, l'enfatizzazione delle basse non è sempre positivo. Certe volte si ricorre a stratagemmi per eliminare delle frequenze fastidiose provenienti dalla chitarra e che potrebbero cozzare con altri strumenti, quindi quella percezione di basse può essere ottima se la chitarra è l'unico strumento e che quindi si prende tutto lo spettro a disposizione, ma in un mix...beh, se molta gente ascoltasse le singole tracce di una chitarra all'interno di un mix rimarrebbe sorpreso negativamente, perchè per far "sposare" il tutto si possono tagliare proprio le frquenze più basse.

First: congratulations for the video, excellent! I have a doubt: Were the two microphones recorded with the same preamp gain? I bought the C2s and found their volume to be much lower than most similar microphones, although the overall sound was good.

Incomincio a pensare che le mie orecchie non siano più in grado di distinguire i dettagli, data l'età, ma comunque percepisco differenze minime. Come già detto da altri, bassi un pochino più profondi e cantini con maggior definizione sulle alte frequenze per gli AKG mentre i Behringer C2 risultano più "mediosi"; anche le differenze di volume sono abbastanza contenute ... in un blind test non sarei sicuro nel riconoscere i microfoni!

@@danielebazzani ascoltando con più calma, con delle cuffie buone, le differenze le percepisco più chiaramente, ma comunque continuo a pensare che non siano tali da meritare una spesa venti volte superiore (forse un po' meno, circa 15 volte). Chiaramente c'è da considerare che la compressione di youtube "appiattisce" le differerenze ed ovviamente in uno studio di registrazione professionale queste differenze si sentono moto di più e contano sul risultato finale, ma per un utilizzo home-recording ... Grazie per questi video, sono sempre ben fatti e molto interessanti.

Muito bom o vídeo. Achei o Behringer mais médio que o akg. Porém, usando equalizadores, compresores, essa diferença se torna insignificante.

What a great video! So well made and the quick switching between mics is an excellent way to be able to make comparisons. I’ve had the opportunity to pick up the Behringer mics for 30 GBP. I had my doubts. After watching this video, I’ve bought them and am awaiting delivery. They may not be the best quality mics in the world, but at that price it’s a steal. Thank you for your help.

I‘m looking for a paired microphone set that I can use for recording my progress of learning how to play handpan and RAV Vast. At the moment I‘m only using my iPhone or the Tascam DR-22WL. It absolutely hurts my ears. So the microphones will be a great upgrade. Next thing that I will need is an audio interface. I might buy the Steinberg UR22C that I found on your Thomann gear list 👌🏼 Great to see that it has an iPad connectivity.

@@choschiba-music that's a good choice, I had it, thumbs up. You could consider a portable recorder like the Zoom to start, what is important is your sound, the positioning of the mics, and then the gear you use. The C2's might be a good option.

Is there any other audio interface that isn‘t that expensive that you could recommend to me?

@@choschiba-music it's always about the budget, if you have less, spend less, I would recommend at least that one but you can look for a single channel card and just one mic, unless you are going for stereo. But at that point consider the Zoom, seriously.

While it appears that the Behringer C2 sounds close to the AKG 451, on close listen, the C2 recording is NOT as believable i.e the C2 adds its own "distortion" to the audio, and it does not sound quite as authentic. I think the real difference will come when effects are added to the track, the AKG 451 recording will hold up much better to processing
