I know it's been so long ago but i wonder if you could answer me the question - i'm frequently working with different textile fibres and have encountered a problem where flax and jute fibres are very difficult to discern. The only difference noted in your video would be the tapered ends. Could you advice on some other specific aspects to look out for? Or maybe some sources to use for that?

Hi, sorry, that'a all for now :-)

@@ChsopensourceOrg in case you might need it in your work, later in my search i found a method called "Modified Herzog test". Makes different bast fibres easy to discern due to difference in the fibre layers twist. And all you need to conduct the test is a lambda plate inserted in the pl microscope. There's a great article on the subject by Haugan and Holst called "Determining the firillar orientation of bast fibres with polarized light microscopy: the modified Herezog test (red plate test) explained".

Do you ever look at the cross section of the textile fibers?
@ChsopensourceOrg9 жыл бұрын
MIECO Hi, no i didn't but it is possible and it's done. They do it in particular in the textile industry since new fibers have often very complex internal structure.

I make a microscope slide I call: Quick Cross Section Plate, it's a new design if you check out my page you will see it. Thanks for your reply..

good day, what does Polarized Light mean? Thank you for your time
@ChsopensourceOrg5 жыл бұрын
hi! light vibrates in any direction. When it passes through a polarization film, it vibrates in only one direction. You can find better explanation in physics books or even online :-)

sorry for the inconvenience, unfortunatley KZbin disabled the possibility to edit annotations like those, so I cannot delete any of them.
