Yes, this is from an older version of Access... but the concepts are still perfectly viable in any modern version. I'll be updating this video soon for Access 2010 or 2013.

And even now 2016 to Office 365. The look of the app has changed, yet the majority of the functions have not. Though my presumption is some have been adjusted and corrected, and some requests have been implemented as well.

Surprisingly, this is not the first time I've heard this. Access isn't something you can just "jump in" and teach like Word or even Excel. If you don't have a solid understanding of databases, you shouldn't be teaching it - especially at the college level. Give him the link to my KZbin channel. Tell him I can put something together for his students. :)

Hi Richard, I am beginning to build a database in Access 2013. I have worked in and built databases before but they have not been very complicated. I am planning to build a much more complex database with a customer list, product list, ordering system for sales staff and design instructions for design staff, so that through the database all parties (owner, sales, design staff, project manager) can view the data they need and if information (customer data) changes than we can all make quick updates and have it updated in all places. My sales staff use tablets to enter order information and our customers sign on the tablet to approve the order. Our design Staff accesses the spreadsheet located on our dropbox account that has to be updated manually by our sales staff in order for the owner, project manager and design staff view the order form with complete instructions and the owner views the spreadsheet for sales progress, ad copy and proof status etc... I believe that Access Database would be a much better system but I have a few questions: Do we all need a full copy of Access in order to make this happen? How can we enter data into the database from a tablet using a form and then email the report to the customer confirming the order? Can the form or report accept customer signatures? Is there an app that would function as a data entry point as opposed to a full version of Access? If I can accomplish this using Access Database I will purchase your tutorials to learn how to do this but I would like to know if it is possible before investing the time.

Pamela Hiebert Good questions. YES, you will need at least ONE full copy of Access to do the design work. I recommend an Office 365 subscription which is less than $10 per month. You can compile your finished database into a version that other people can USE without having to buy Access. YES, you can design data-entry forms that can be used on a tablet or web browser, but then you'll need a hosted Access solution which will cost another $10 per month or so (your data needs to be "in the cloud") or you have to set up your own server for this. Accepting customer signatures (like the UPS guy does on his tablet) is POSSIBLE, but not easy. That's a lot more advanced. If you have any more questions, contact me on my web site at 599cd.com/XCF

Hey Richard! I have a table with a primary key, and want to have it be the 'one' side of a one-to-many relationship with 3 other tables (so one primary key relates to the foreign keys of 3 other tables. When I try to view the subtables in the table format by clicking on the plus sign, nothing shows up. Is it possible to create multiple one-to-many relationships stemming from one primary key in a table? Thanks!
@599CD
@599CD 10 жыл бұрын
Nope. Subtables will only work with ONE child table. To do this, use a form with three separate subforms.
