I spent many hours on this version! This brings back the feelings of anxiety from the instructor saying, Tool low! and You're high, descend a little. I was like "dude, make up your mind!"

I literally learned how to fly using MSFS 98. It was an extremely well done program and even today looks pretty sharp.

whiskey tango foxtrot I remember the “watch your altitude,” “be careful, you’re getting a little low,” etc that the instructor did. Eventually he gave up and ended the lesson.

Pulling and pushing the throttle as a means to adjust altitude on descent is a very VFR-HeavyAircraft-Mindset. For a 172 Adjust power to 1800rpm and set flaps to 10°, this *should* yield 90kts airspeed when descent rate is at -450’/min*. Then; (for VFR) hold the aiming points on the airstrip at the desired position on the windscreen by pushing & pulling the yolk back and forth. If it’s too high, fly level until the runway descends visually, then nose down to continue your descent at proper vertical speed. If it’s too low, push harder on the stick until it ascends visually to the desired position, then ease up to maintain proper vertical speed as given by the equation below. Try only to use “level” and “push down” maneuvers while not exceeding a negative vertical speed of 450’/min*. Once over the runway threshold reduce power by at least 1/2 more** and begin to ease back on the stick. (for IFR) once glideslope has been properly captured, maintain centering of the CDI as described above for that of the runway’s position on the windscreen. For both of these approaches we set the throttle and LEAVE IT ALONE. The yolk is the control input manipulated. *For a Heavy Aircraft,* one in which the concept of “butter landings” comes about, the flare is done at high altitude - not right before touchdown. Flaps are set, the nose is raised to the proper flare angle for touchdown, and the throttle is used to ascend up, or drop down to, the glideslope, also maintaining a vertical descent rate as calculated below to avoid having to “chase the glideslope,” as they say. For this approach the yolk is held steady at a nose-up angle and the throttle becomes the control input manipulated. “Windows…..What do you need those for?” 💨🛫 *this figure is not set, and is calculated as follows. (Airspeed / 2) x 10 ** everyone has their own tricky way at this one. Arguably you do not *need* to reduce speed again until on the ground if you were on the glideslope. Upon pulling back dramatically on the yolk, the aircraft should stall and the impact be comfortable even at landing power. That’s the point of the localizer in the first place. Keep in mind that if you reduce power and fall behind the glideslope - it’s gonna be a hard landing no matter what.

Can you do all the lessons on this and upload and Flight Simulator 2000? The training modules there are great too. It's where I learned how to land properly. When the edges of the runway look parallel and even in height you're lined up.

This is Meigs Field in Chicago, USA, but the real airport was closed in 2003. I am not sure if this exists in fsx. Unless existing in fsx, that means none is MSFS either. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meigs_Field

Dumbest "tutorial" i've ever played. Guy doesn't teach you how to do anything, you have to already know how to fly a plane in order to be successful in this tutorial. The only tutorial where the tutorial instructor actually gets an attitude with you and quits on you.
