The lack of cyclic animations on the Milviz 530F doesn't surprise me. Back when they did the Huey for FSX they animated the collective backwards whish is a huge sticking point with me because I worked on Hueys in the Army. So Shrike is to Milviz what Alabeo is to Carenado.

Wow, the scenes of both helicopters in the canyons are really amazing! I even liked the music :D I already have the 500E and don't see any reason to get the 530F as well. But maybe I will get it just for completeness and to support helicopter development in MSFS.

I have both and can’t stop flying the 530F (hard to say why, I think the shrike is lighter and smoother on my pc)

My biggest gripe with the 500E is the relative low texture resolution of the cockpit and instruments. In VR it REALLY jumps out at you compared to the H160 from Hype.

I have flown a lot of the helicopters in XPL 11 and now MSFS2020. I fly with Pro-Flight helicopter controls. I generally care a lot more about how a model flies than the modeling/animations, etc. I personally really prefer the Shrike 530F over the Cowan 500E based on how they fly.

@@flightswithjoel Great videos but I have an Xbox Series X and the hand controller and I find both cyclic and collective control just very poor. I have a few helicopters. The worst is the Microsoft/Nemeth Bell 407. It's absolutely awful. Cowan Sim's HS125 is the best so far. GotFriend's Mini-500 is ok as is the Microsoft/Asobo Guimbal Cabri G2 but either way it's extremely challenging to trim the Cyclic and make the Collective at least half ways linear and predictable.

Ok, this 530F with tail number N6978...The horizontal stabilizer tabs are fixed and do not move with any flight controls.

Thanks for the video. Curious to know how the flight models compare and power levels. I found the 500E to be way too powerfull and light, very fun but not super realistic. It has enough hoverpower to climb to 23.000ft. I am curious to know if the 530F is a bit more subdued in that regard and maybe has a little more innertia/weight feel?

Flight model is not that different than the 500E. Seems a bit smoother and drops faster when collective is down.

In real life, the 500E has a C20B engine with the ability to upgrade to a C20R. They are maybe 30HP off but are both derrated to 375HP for 5 minute take off power and 350HP for max continuous power. It’s max operating altitude is 16k feet. The 530F has a C30 engine. It’s what MD calls the “high hot and heavy performance model. It has 200hp more than the E. It’s an absolute power house of a machine but it burns about 8 gallons more an hour than the E. They are both about the same speed. 135 KTAS. The Cowan 500E I found to be pretty darn realistic, it’s incredibly maneuverable and fast but as you said it definitely can’t climb to 23k ft per the POH.

@@hondo500e Thanks for the feedback and insight. I loaded the 500E with a bit of cargo and that really seems to help her settle to les crazy climb. Never realised the F has that much more power. That is quite substantial :D

If I'm being honest, the 500E isn't for me. Something just seems off when I fly it. Cowan's 222b and H125 are amazing though. I see a lot of opinions that line up with mine when it comes to the 500E, so I think once the 530F comes to Xbox, I'll switch to that one.

The Cowan cockpit really looks ugly compared to the 530, all those default instruments just there.

I totally (respectfully) disagree. The CS cockpit looks far more realistic than the 530's to me. The latter looks like something from FSX. I do wish I could disable some of the replicated instruments in the 500E though. I just bought the 500E this morning, and I've been having a blast with it. It's the least stable heli that I have for MSFS, but also the most fun (and the most challenging to fly/land). I haven't flown a real 500 in many years (and back then, only for a couple hours) but it feels right to me
