I left cheap Batteries in my Xbox 360 Controller for a few years, Which corroded the metal contacts in the Battery Pack.... I was just about to sell this but I thought I'd try to repair it as I have nothing to lose.

My approach was different to the same problem. As I was cleaning my controller from dust and stuff that my 3 year old toddler did with it I used alcohol to clean the outside and buttons and whatnot with alcohol 99%. Outside it was pristine and as I swapped old for new batteries co troller didn't turn on. Used the toothbrush with alcohol inside the battery pack and the metal just popped out. It was full of alkaline, green and rusty. The other one was fine, much like yours. So I used a little cup, poured some alcohol and put the metal to soak in for about 5-10min. Used the toothbrush rigorously and ye, it did the job quite well. Had to use a flat screwdriver to get rid of the green excess till I was satisfied with the result. Now the tricky part was to put it inside again. Not gonna lie, took me about 10min to figure it out, had the phone flash on with camera set on video with 2x zoom to actually see where it would click and once I saw it was arranged, pressed lightly with the pinky and sure enough it clicked back to place. Put the new batteries on and voila, problem solved, and like new, before I had connections loss with that controller, never could identify why. There you have it, if somebody has a problem, sure, the video presentes here is the easiest solution and quite effective as well. Astonishing how these controllers still hold on so we'll after all these years. Even when my kid was still a baby he would throw the controller to the ground so many times and at some point I thought oh well, it's broken anyway I guess.

I want to give my old xbox 360 as a gift to my gf, she gets bored a lot so I thought since I don't use it anymore it would be a good gift for her. I spent like 1 hour searching the xbox the cables etc, plugged everything in and the controller didn't work, was getting super discouraged until I saw your video, I love you, and be certain, my gf will love u too. Another thing to check is the metal piece in the little central square window of the pack, as it is integral to getting the two batteries to power the controller. Make sure it's wedged in properly, as it may have become dislodged either from the corrosion or from the process of removing the corrosion.

Thank you for this fix! I used a pen and a strip of sand paper, this gives more surface to rub against the corrosion. I taped the sand paper to the pen with a little strip of washi tape, so it wouldn't slip away.

You can just stuff a little strip of aluminum foil in there. It just has to connect the two heads at the bottom to complete the circuit. It's really a dumb pack. It should have been just a cover.

u can buy new battery holder off eBay for like 3 dollars as long as the springs on the controller are still good you can just easily replace the battery holder

I’d try giving another good scratching on the metal contacts, springs and maybe try and use tweezers to put the springs up a bit and also press in the bit of metal on the battery case too
