I've legit watched this video at least 3 times (along with other reviews of the Socom Elite). I just can't shake it, seems like it'll be my next folder whenever that is. I think the combination of design, 7075 aluminum, bearings with steel washers so they don't dig into the aluminum, the action you demonstrate... AND I've grown up and learned with thumbstud opening knives, so that's my preference.

You'll love it. Totally worth it!

I like the geometry used in the blade design. It throws a lot of metal all the way to the end, it's very well done as are all Microtech knives.

Great overview...I love ur editing in corrections/clarifications...gee it’s almost like u know how nit picky some knife nuts...(Microholics) can be...I’m one myself. The new handle alloy is a nice feature, and I would love to see a new Amphibian run using 7075 and the new hardware...makes for a solid feeling folder. I no minda da locka stick so much...my fingers especially

If you ever get a chance to pick a Socom up just do it. Its a beefy knife but it will quickly become your favorite knife ever. Also, lifetime warranty and each blade is hand sharpened. Say you break the tip off ten years after buying.. mail it in and they have a human reshape your knife for free. Microtech is whatsup. The Socom and an Ultratech OTF is the best EDC setup ever lol.

Fellow gun/knife nut here, m16/ar15 variant rifles vary in the aluminum used in their recievers, 6061-t6 is generally either forged or milled from billet in most "budget" priced ar15's, mil-spec m16 recievers are made of forged 6061-t6 due to slight reduction in cost for the us military, most high end AR platform rifles use 7075 however it is generally forged because it is much more expensive to mill a solid piece of 7075-t6 aluminum into something as intricate and delecate as an AR reciever, however custom level AR companies like LWRC (the microtech of the AR world, so expensive but so worth it) use milled 7075-t6 recievers, however some budget AR manufacturers have been using 7075 like Anderson in some of their models, I think FNH makes reasonably priced AR's with 7075 recievers despite their basic models being in the $1,000 range (best AR's for the money if you are a 7075 snob imo) however at that price it is definitely forged, milling 7075 is too delicate of a process to produce a reciever in that price range, however the best price for a milled 7075 reciever is for sure Daniel Defense, if you can afford them get one, best AR if you are looking to spend $1,500 on one

Great DETAILED EXPRIENCED video.I own a 2011 socom elite in 20 cv /satin blade. I own this same [ above] knife and my biggest gripe is the clip side of the knife is SLIPPERY .I know I will have to put skate board tape on that side . Please ....any suggestions ?
@bauhausoffice3 жыл бұрын
I like it quit coffee and convert your holder into a change holder. Complete with center consul cut. About the carry. When putting your hand in your pocket the right side of your hand rubs against the blade etc. I prefer tip up because you get the backside of the knife against your hand that is just plain better. Instead I keep this in my EDC backpack.
@ScottieG596 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing flipping a knife open, except It did not hit an armrest; it hit my leg. Anyway, the tip up vs tip down difference has people on both sides. Though I prefer tip up, occasionally, some of my knives with thumb studs partially open if the thumb stud catches the top of the pocket. This seems to happen most with liner and frame locks, but one in a while, with a back lock.

I don't know why I am one of the only ones pointing things like this out and noticing things that nobody is mentioning? Everyone raves about this knife. I just got one. I cannot stand the deployment. It literally sucks and you have to practice. The handle has so little real estate, especially at the bottom where it needs more width, that you have to get used to really keeping your fingers away from the blade so you are not accidentally holding back deployment with an edge of your finger. I find the knife way too 'petite' for a 4" blade. This never happens on the Spyderco Para 2 or Military models, where opening is as smooth as butter and there is more real estate on the handles so you don't even think about where your fingers are. I find the handle on this knife to be way too small, too petite, and not beefy or wide enough, especially at the bottom. Sure it is well made. Once you get used to opening the knife the flipping action is great. All I know is after owning and handling Medfords, Hobacks, Microtech and other classics, I just keep going back to my Spyderco Military and Paramilitary 2 for EDC!

I just got mine in with two-tone black blade. I’m really disappointed in how close the plunge grind is to the blade edge. It’s brand new and there is no way to lay the bevel back to my preferred 17° angle without getting an ugly smile. 😡 I will probably not touch it and just sell it on BladeBinge right away. It’s such an old design and been through iterations and I figured they would have addressed things like this.

Tip up has a draw back, slide your hand along the knife to get something in the bottom of your pocket catch the stud with finger tip now you got open blade in pocket. Had it happen with thumb studs and spydie holes.

Just got a Para3 and after a little break-in I rinsed it under the sink and used some compressed air to dry, just because it started to get hard to open, and now it's perfect. I didn't add oil yet because it opens and closes great now. Did I do good? Is my knife all ok from my description and is it normal to give it a rinse in the sink? Thanks so much for your thoughts.

I have a Socom Elite from 02/2018. The blade is marked "Socom Elite M/A S/E" above the Microtech logo. Anyone know why? What is M/A and S/E?
@3Csavage Жыл бұрын
The socom has been released in 3 opening configurations. Manual action (M/A), Double Action (D/A), and Auto (A/A). The current generation has never been made in double action though. As for the second part microtech uses the same system to differentiate blade configurations. Single edged or the drop point (S/E), Tanto edge (T/E) and spear point. Your Socom blade markings mean it’s a manual action (M/A) drop point/single edge (S/E) As for microtech otfs the same applies but you also have double edge (D/E) which is the dagger blades and Hellhound (H/H) some don’t have shorthands like the Spartans and numerous other historical microtech configs or marfione blade shapes but the core ones do which is why the spear point Socom doesn’t have a shorthand designation because it’s not a core blade style. And for the actions you have single action (S/A) like the halos that only open automatically but need to be closed manually and double action (D/A) which is the one that opens and closes with the switch.
