Chris, the real benefit to having an automatic Microtech Socom Elite is that there's no detent ball and the blade is securely held in place by the button lock mechanism even if the firing spring completely breaks. On the other hand, if you're extremely hard using a manual Socom Elite you can actually damage or completely break its detent ball which will then cause the blade to no longer have any retention and the blade will then easily/dangerously swing in and out of the handle freely. You're able to carry the auto version of the Microtech Socom Elite in a lot fewer places, but technically the auto version is stronger!!!
@kevin60303 жыл бұрын
Horse shit. The manual is twice as strong
@ThomasConnolly3 жыл бұрын
@@kevin6030 You're dead wrong because the manual Socom Elite relies on detents to retain the blade in its handle, while the automatic Socom Elite relies on the button lock mechanism to keep the blade in the handle. It's common sense just think about it logically, what do you think is easier to break during hard use detent balls or a button lock mechanism? Obviously, the button lock mechanism is a hell of a lot stronger than detent balls!!! You clearly don't know what the hell you're talking about!!!!! Watch this video and try and learn something - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGnWdp6YlKiLers watch what an expert who's carried and hard-used both the manual and auto Socom Elite says at the 25-minute mark of this video
@ThomasConnolly3 жыл бұрын
@@kevin6030 Please explain exactly what makes the manual Scom Elite twice as strong as the auto Socom Elite?
@gurizeigerman37753 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasConnolly That has nothing to do with the strength of the knife design itself, only the longevity. Eventually, the more you abuse a knife, the higher chance things will break. His was an extreme test, and I've not seen even on the most abused knives, a busted or worn down detent ball to the point the blade was flopping out. There's nothing you can do in the normal course of hard use that will cause this. Additionally, all this comparison for a simple locking mechanism's longevity is irrelevant. In either knife, you can snap the auto spring, snap the plunge lock spring or wear or snap out the detent ball (unlikely). In all cases, you can repair these items, and surely microtech can as well. The most hard use areas that matter on a knife are the blade and the pivot. The locking systems, pivots, and blades on both the manual and auto can be fully replaced if need be. Microtech designed it that way on purpose. On the contrary, either knife is just as strong as the other, simply the opening mechanism is different. You are more likely to bust a spring before you have issues with lockup from abuse on a socom manual knife. Unless you like to run your knives over with a hummer every other day.

Thanks for the Heads UP on the MicroTech Elite Auto! I ordered one from DLT Trading last week and I got in about 4 days and it is an AWESOME Blade! I was a Little Disappointed that it did not come Super Razor Sharp but I fixed that with 3 passes on each side on a Ultra Fine Diamond Stick. I went with the Microtech 161A-1T SOCOM Elite T/E - Black Blade - Black Handle but I am thinking about getting the Drop Point with Serrations since I normally like to get both versions of knives that I like but I will have to wait till the knife is In-Stock again since I want to get the Auto!
@jeanlloydbradberry90994 жыл бұрын
You've sold me! The best auto I've had (and I carried a Smith and Wesson tiny Chisel-point auto-opener in the field when I was in the border patrol and at the time, it was a high-end knife and it did all I ever needed it to do) was an inexpensive CHICOM paratroop knife I bought for about six dollars in a South Korean street tool market stand where I also used to buy my excellent, ultra-light, practically indestructible and concealable Normarc skinning and throwing hatchets. My all-time facvorite knife, though was a Crossnar balisong that I got in a snob shop in Abu Dhabi. Although many may not find certain things about it to be to their particular tastes or specs, like an old Browning Hi-Power pistol or Charter Arms Bulldog Classic .44 Special revolver (which with its slightly longer 3-inch barrel for a "Joe Manix" snub gun, I loved hand-loading up to safe magnum-leve[ loads making each shot a dual purposed "flash bang" stunner at the target-end with a report and flash similar to a .40mm grenade going off in small, enclosed dark spaces) , it was so comfortable and easy to carry and use that I just loved to carry and use it. With a simple, economical helicopter flip, it looked like an automatic opening, and was cooler to me, because it was all me doing the "magic instant opening" trick, similar to the way that quietly shooting a 1.25-inch bearing ball out of a short, home-made shepherd's sling to take out a target is cooler than doing the same thing with a bullet out of a well-suppressed (or squib-loaded) handgun or top-of-the-line air rifle.

Just a curiosity question...has this change over the last couple years to doing more folder and auto knives videos have to do with change in personal taste or because there are so many folding knives out there with a huge fan base for such knives? I've always been a fixed blade guy, especially after a bad accident when the locking mechanism on a folder failed and ended up cutting thru the tendons and nerves in my hand, but I must admit I'm liking some of these microtech's. I have a couple folders I love and always carry one daily, but I also edc a fixed blade everyday (TOPS Tex Creek, Esee 4hm, Bark River PSK cruwear, BR Squad Leader 3v, or Becker BK 16). What I find is that personally, I always grab my fixed blade for any task requiring a blade...so, my folders never see any action. Have you or anyone on here have a similar type situation going on or maybe just the opposite?

Wish I never sold my old tan Elite with carbon fiber inlays and my Select Fire manual. It was the best s35vn I've tried(still need to try Fantoni, their heat great has great reputation and from the Dweller in 19c27 I have I'd agree) and both had one of the thinnest edges I've seen on a production knife(0.010-0.012 just like the Dweller and Super Blue Caly 3.5). I still love my Sigil, Delta and LUDT but that Elite and SF were something else.
