I just took the motor apart and repaired it. Within the motor, is a donut shaped magnet. Sitting inside the magnet, is the first nylon gear. The magnet has 4 tiny notches on the top for the nylon gear to lock on to. In my case, the notches were worn down, and so the donut shaped magnet was spinning, but the gear was not. Fortunately the magnet has 4 tiny notches on the opposite side as well. So I just flipped the magnet over, and then reassembled the motor. It has been working for about a year now. Repair cost : $0.00.

Thanks for the info. I removed the motor and tested it for continuity with my multi meter which showed it had continuity. I took the motor apart and cleaned the housing the gears and the magnet contacts, reassembled and it is now working. After almost 20 years, there was a lotta gunk within the motor housing. One caveat, if you decide to take the motor apart, pay special attention on the gear placement as to which gear goes where, and which side of the gear goes up or down...

Furnace was not working, so the kitchen was darn cold. That caused metals to shrink and shift a bit. The moment this happened, the microwave turntable was not spinning. Motor was not an open circuit, and AC power was being applied to the two wires that connect to the motor, as one could see since the lamp was going on and it is connected to the same relay. So it had become a metal to metal AC motor connector contact problem. Wiggle those two connectors a bit to restore proper zero ohm connections, and boom, all was working again.

There are three failure states. The motor coil opens or the gear teeth strip or bad/corroded contacts. Do a resistance check for an open coil. Verify power is at the motor plug. You might hear the motor running, but no or intermittent rotation.

@Sam One thing I'm curious about---is there a transformer of sorts inside the microwave that steps down the 120V 60Hz AC wall voltage to the very small, presumably DC current required to run the turntable motor? There would have to be, I'd think, but I don't have a microwave I can disassemble at the moment. Thanks in advance for any reply. John

I use the foam spray when I'm working on condenser here is the link if you'd like kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJDHlZR_bNVlas0 Thank you for watching! Thanks. My Kenmore microwave has the same problem. There are I called Kenmore and they say it's discontinued. I think they just want to sell me one. My model number 565.06252100 output is 100watts. I also need a roller guide. I if you happen to have any resources I can use to purchase the parts I would be so grateful. I am thanks again Sam.
@MoreThanMaintenance6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I have had the same experience. Most of the older style appliances are becoming obsolete because the manufacturers "discontinue" parts forcing the consumer to purchase a new microwave. Even with these newer appliances the appliance companies are starting to change design of components every year or so making it even more difficult to repair due to having everything tied and controlled by a circuit board. 🙄

Getting parts can be a pain. I often go for a long walk to the beer store and then use my foldable cart to carry the beers home. One time on the way home, I spotted a microwave oven that someone had tossed to the curb for disposal. I tossed it into my cart, and took it home. I then took it apart and removed the working parts that were compatible with parts within my oven. They saved the day. One of the door micro-switches was damaged and led to arcing. ( I slammed the door one time to often ) The arcing blew both the main fuse and a thermal fuse. But thanks to having working compatible spare parts, I replaced both of the fuses and both of the door micro-switches. This repair was about 2 years ago, and the oven is still working perfectly. Repair cost : $0.00.

Depends on what you've got going on. If the repair or replacement part is going to cost more than the microwave cost in the first place, then I'd just buy a new one.
