When shooting recipe videos, I often require only a small portion of rice. Since I have a family of 6, I have a large 10-cup rice cooker. And it does not work well when I need to cook just 1 cup of rice. As a solution, I went online and bought this little microwave rice cooker. Here is my review of it.
During my time studying abroad and living alone, I often cooked for myself. For about 4 years, I used a small microwave rice cooker, similar to the one mentioned here. So, I am quite familiar with this little gadget.

Thank you, I bought the same cooker on Temu. There were no instructions so I was nervous about how to use.

I hope it turned out well.😊 You just need to experiment a little with the amount of water and your microwave setting

Ditto, mine arrived yesterday. I think the one from TEMU is a knock-off of the ones he has in the video, eg my box doesn't have the branding on it and it didn't come with a cup. I came looking for instructions because my usual technique (1:2 rice/water ratio, 30min soak 10 min cook) still overflowed, although not as badly as in my glass bowl.

For those of us figuring out how much rice to cook on what setting to avoid overflowing, It's a REALLY important note that the "rice cup" as used is 180ml, not the same as 250ml metric or 236ml american cup. For rice:water ratio of 1:1.2 in Busy Daddy's video, this suggests 360ml rice to 432ml water. This also explains why testing instructions found online cooking about "2 cups of rice" has often boiled over in my 1200 watt microwave anyway! Today I tried these measurements for my sushi rice (short grain japanese white rice, glutinous/sticky) with a little salt for 15 min on full power in the 1200 watt microwave. It still boiled over a lot more than in Busy Daddy's video, enough that I needed to clean the microwave plate but not so much I needed to clean the microwave! Otherwise the rice is good. The other day I had tried 250ml long grain white to 300ml water and a little salt, on 70% power for 12 min and 5 min rest after. It boiled over a little less than today. The rice was nice but not suitable for onigiri which is what I really bought the cooker for. I'll try to add when I get a better non-boiling-over result in my 1200 watt microwave. I can't figure out @cyranonow's tip about pressing the spoon tip to lift the lid. Mine the spoon just lifts itself out of the hollow. Maybe because mine is a cheap unbranded TEMU knockoff (which didn't come with a "rice cup"). I wish the cooker had vents under the spoon hollow so the overflowed rice water drained back into the pot.

Some microwave has a built- in rice cooking function. I cook rice in a heat safe glass bowl and yes the instructions said 1:1.5 for rice and water ratio which I followed but it turned out too soggy. I think the ideal situation is 1:1.3 as I don’t cover the bowl while doing microwave.

Your container makes a difference. Just have to experiment a couple of times to get the ratio and timing right. Have fun 😀😀😀

Keep the spoon on and press the outside of the spoon tip while lifting the bottom part of the spoon and the lid comes off easy

I got a similar rice cooker but no scoop with this model, I checked the box. So I'll have to figure out how much rice I need for one person. However your video was useful for working out the ratio of rice to water.

I purchased the same one on Amazon but mine didn’t come with a measuring cup. I was looking for an instruction booklet & there was none. I had to come onto KZbin to look for videos on how to use it.

I am glad you found this video. I measured my cup and it holds 160ml of water. Work with ratio of rice to water rather than size of the cup. And experiment with cook time. It took me 3-4 attempts to dial in the settings and measurements. Hope this helps. 😀

Hi, thanks for the video, it is really useful, just one question, is it the same time no matter the amount of rice?
@BusyDaddyCooks

The timing will depend on the amount of rice. Cook the rice till it's done

You didn't say what material the cooker made of. I guess it must be plastic, BPA free or not I just simply don't cook any thing in it. I use plastic container for food storage when it's not hot though. I do cook rice in microwave too! By using the micro pop corn popper pot. It made of glass.

I have a different brand of microwave rice cooker, but it's basically the same premise (mine is the Sistema Rice Cooker). It comes with cooking guidelines for 4 different types of grains: White Rice 250g/8.8oz + 500-600ml water Cook 8-12 minutes Quinoa 240g/8.4oz + 500-600ml water Cook 11-15 minutes Polenta 200g/7oz + 600-700ml water Cook 3-5 minutes Couscous 255g/8.9oz + 350-450ml water Cook 3-5 minutes As you can see, Couscous has a much shorter cook time and requires much less water. Hope this helps you!
