Mr. Skinner: what are the guides on that Tsunami stick?
@dutchkayaker246210 күн бұрын
John, I'm debating on buying the SaltX II, but can't settle on the 4000 versus 6000 series reel. Can I ask you, why did you buy the 6000? Wouldn't you have to put a lot of backer line on that reel, versus having to spool over 300 yards of 30lb braid on there- wouldn't it just be more economical to just buy the 4000 series reel and just spool it completely with braid? It's only a couple of ounces heavier buying the 6000, but just the expense of paying more to put added line on - I don't see the benefit.
@dutchkayaker246210 күн бұрын
BTW, I'm going to pair it with buying the Lamiglas Carbon Surf 10'-6" rod, just to save money - or would you advise me on buying the Tsunami Forged instead?
@JohnSkinnerFishing10 күн бұрын
IMO, a 4000 is a tiny reel for a 10-ft+ rod. You'll get longer casts with the larger spool and more power and faster line pickup with the 6000. I'd choose the Tsunami Forged rod. That's a very nice combo the Forged and the SaltX2 6000.
@hennies950912 күн бұрын
You should try and get the longest rod possible. Here in South Africa, I use a 13ft rod for beach fishing. Walk in as deep as possible and cast.I have heard some Australians saying that they are also going to start using our technique. I'm just telling you what we do here. Regards Cape Town, South.
@Phil_Theekrit12 күн бұрын
Some of the beaches here have a sand bar about 75 yds out so you don’t want to cast too far out unless you’re in a wetsuit and fishing off the bar but the fish tend to feed between the bar and the beach. Not sure about this particular beach

John in northern california a lot of the structure is flat white water and then a few big waves way out. Or Good structure in cloudy water that is green or brown in tint. Please make more content like this! I love the surf videos and they have helped me so much! Our structure is quite difficult. Rarely any birds diving close to shore. Most times there are no signs of life just sand crabs. Or the occasional seal swimming in a trough near shore. The long stretch of shallow white water that looks impossible to hit any sort of structure or hold any fish is extremely relatable. Thank you so much for this video!

@JohnSkinnerFishing12 күн бұрын
Usually bait at a minimum, but with sandeels they're good fish markers even if you don't see fish on the surface. Those big dive bombing gannets indicate large baits.

You caught fish in the afternoon. Does that mean that during the Fall. Time of day doesn't matter. Everyone else only goes goes fishing at night, first light or last light.
@sd075311 күн бұрын
If the weather is clear, bright sun, and clear water, you won't catch much in the afternoon. If it's cloudy, or rough with dirty water, the afternoon can be great. It's all about the brightness the fish perceive.
