මේ Mid Autumn Festival එකත් එක්ක බැඳුණු එක පුරාවෘත්තයක් තමයි Chang'e කියන Moon Goddess ගේයි දක්ෂ දුනුවායෙක් වුනු එයාගේ husband Hou Yi ගෙයි කතාව. මේ කතාවට අනුව ඉස්සර පෘථිවියට සූර්යයන් දහදෙනෙක් ඉදලා තියෙනවා. මේ සූර්යයන් දහදෙනාගෙ බලපෑම නිසා පෘථිවියේ තියෙන ජල උල්පත් සිදී ගිහිල්ලා මිනිසුන්ට වගේම පරිසරයටත් බොහොම හානි වෙලා තියෙනවා. මේ Hou Yi එයාගේ දුන්න පාවිච්චි කරලා සූර්යයන් නමදෙනෙක්ම මරාදාලා තියෙනවා. මේ ගැන සතුටු වුන ස්වර්ගයේ රැජින එයා ලග තියෙන අමෘතයෙන් කොටසක් මේ Hou Yi ට ලබා දෙනවා. Hou Yi ට අමරණීය වෙන්න අවශ්‍ය වුනත් එයාට Chang'e ත් එක්ක ඉන්න අවශ්‍ය නිසා මේ අමෘතය පානය කරන්නේ නැතුව ඒක ආරක්ෂිතව තියාගන්න කියලා Chang'e ට කියනවා. මේ කතාව දැනගන්න Hou Yiගේ Peng Meng කියන ගෝලයා Hou Yi දඩයමේ ගිය දවසක හොරෙන් ගෙට ඇතුල් වෙලා Chang'e ව බය කරලා අමෘතය ලබාගන්න හදනවා. එතැනදී Peng Meng ගෙන් අමෘතයයි තමන්වයි ආරක්ෂා කරගන්න බෑ කියලා තේරුම් ගන්න Chang'e වහාම මේ අමෘතය පානය කරනවා. ඒ අමෘතය පානය කරපු Chang'e අමරණීයත්වයට පත් වෙනවා. සැමියාගෙන් ඈත් වෙලා ජීවත් වෙන්න අකැමැති වුන Chang'e එයාගේ සුරතලා වුන හාවත් එක්ක පෘථිවියට ළඟම තියෙන හඳට පියාසර කරනවා. දඩයමේ ගිහිල්ල ගෙදර එන Hou Yi, Chang'e සිද්ද වෙච්ච දේ දැනගෙන අහස දිහා බලාගෙන ගොඩක් දුක් වෙනවා. එතකොට එයා දකිනවා ඒ රාත්‍රියේදී සඳ බොහොම දීප්තිමත්ව බබළනවා කියලා. ඒ වගේම හරියටම Chang'e ගේ වගේ රූපයක් සඳේ තියෙනවා එයා දකිනවා. Hou Yi ඉක්මනටම Chang'e ගේ ප්‍රියතම ආහාරය වුන Mooncake හදනවා. ඊට පස්සේ එළිමහනේ සඳ යට මේසයක් තියලා ඉටිපන්දම් පත්තුකරලා, Mooncake තියලා Chang'e ව සිහිකරනවා. එතැන් ඉදන් Mid Autumn Festival එක තියෙන කාලෙට මිනිසුන් සඳට Mooncake පූජා කරලා වන්දනාමාන කරනවා. The most popular story of the Mid-Autumn Festival is about the Chinese Moon Goddess - Chang'e. Hou Yi an excellent archer, is Chang E's husband. Long, long ago, there were 10 suns in the sky. The suns burnt all the plants on Earth. People were dying. One day, Hou Yi used his bow and arrows to shoot down nine of them. Only leaving one shining in the sky. All the people on Earth were saved. As a reward, the Queen of Heaven gave Hou Yi an elixir of life for his great contribution. The person who eats the elixir will become immortal and go to heaven. However, Hou Yi was unwilling to leave his wife, so he did not eat the elixir. Instead, he gave it to Chang'e for safekeeping. Hou Yi became more and more famous after he shot down the nine suns. People wanted him to be their master and most of them were accepted by Hou Yi. Not every student of Hou Yi had good morality. Pang Meng, one such student, wanted to seize his elixir. One day, Hou Yi went hunting with his students, but Pang Meng pretended to be ill and stayed at home. After making sure Hou Yi had gone, he went to Hou Yi's house and tried to force Chang'e to give him the elixir. Chang'e knew that she couldn't manage to protect the elixir and herself, so she drank the elixir immediately. Suddenly, Chang'e floated lightly in the air and became immortal. She didn't want to live far away from her husband, so she flew to the moon which is the nearest to the earth. Hou Yi was brokenhearted when he came back home and was told what had happened to Chang'e. He shouted to the sky and surprisingly discovered the moon was extremely bright that night. He caught sight of a swaying figure that was exactly like Chang'e. He immediately made Mooncakes which is Chang E's favorite food. Then, he put a table under the moon and placed the moon cakes with candles on the table, convening a memorable ceremony for Chang'e, who lived on the distant moon. When local people heard the story of Chang'e, they offered Mooncakes and fresh fruits to the moon to worship the Moon Goddess Chang'e. Since then, worshiping the moon and eating moon cakes became a tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
