The Tate Olive brought tears to my eyes....our childhood mid-century home; designed and built by my parents...was graced with this exact same exterior color. Nestled against a hill of glorious Pacific Northwest evergreen trees, it was absolute perfection. Needless to say. green has remained one of my favorite colors. m :) Fun video. :)

I picked that color because it's the same color we chose for our 1957 MCM rancher! We don't have a front courtyard, but we have a full wall (to the peak of the roof too) of fabulous windows, and our backyard feels like a courtyard. I lived in Spain as a kid and fell in love with courtyards. Your house is fabulous, and I love all the choices you made.

So fresh and attractive! The trim on my own house is similar to Tate Olive, and it nicely complements the pinkish tan brick. I really like the trim colors you chose to go with the olive, too. I bet the kids think they have a new house!

I think you should go for a statement tile to really give your frontage some extra Kerb appeal. I’m also looking at renovating my drive way and think tile will add that custom look. I also love the greens. I have an office room that is like a light olive called “Lemon Grass” by Benjamin Moore. When the sun shines in there, it’s a very cheerful color. I always get compliments on it. I live in Mi. My ranch style home is mostly Brick, and I have just trim that is a clay color. I just purchased a new roof in a pretty medium brown that goes with the trim and brick. I have double front doors, and had them replaced about 8 years ago. I chose a medium brown stain color, but they’re white inside. I love your new natural stained door. Looks great with the green. Paint is so hard to choose inside as well as outside, as it gives off a very different hue on every wall. It’s definitely all about the lighting. Doesn’t it feel good to get things done around the house? Curb appeal is so important. My curb appeal is looking pretty good now. It makes me happy when I pull out of my driveway! So excited for you! We did our exterior in 2022, Downing Slate walls with Bolero red doors. It was originally corn yellow. 😑 It’s a rental, but I got the owner to paint it. I got to pick the colors. 😁

Hi Julie, gorgeous historic home you have! Tell viewers that green houses are not recommended by notable architects because the human eye is the most sensitive to shades of green. It can get confusing to add green paint to all the shades of green already in nature. I think you got this Jules. ❤

I like the stencil. It’s not as busy as the diamonds. You’ll have more control over the pattern and the colors. I think the tile might compete with the door and it’s beautiful centerpiece if it’s too high contrast. With a stencil you can choose something to compliment it instead.

I definitely vote stincil, but I've got nostalgia bias. My grandmother had painted floors, and every few years as it wore away, she would choose a new color. She would always paint a welcome rug by the door and at the bottom of the stairs. A stincil is probably going to be cheaper than tiles, more easily changed or updated. How many times can you have the walk stencilled for the price of installing tile?

I wouldn't say any of the 4 colors were wrong, but since I like darker colors for houses, the last 2 were my favorites (I say that, but I haven't done anything with the white board on mine, so... xD). I really like the effect of the olive with the natural wood door. Plus the white frames and trims of the windows and side door pop so much more, it really puts the architectural detail in the forefront. The retractable screen is so handy. I used to have one, I loved it! Then I changed the door, with a second panel beside, it was too wide for the screen and it would be awkward to pin a larger one over the panel, so I had to do without... As for the main entry's landing, something more contrasting to the stone beside would make it more interesting.

(yup, I have been looking up who Cliff May was and I'm learning a tone of new things on Californian mid-century architecture, which I didn't knew much about. xD)

Beautiful, Julie. Did you have to get approval from the HOA? After the drought last year, we got a letter saying we could not put rocks in the flower bed. I think a dry scape should be an option in Houston, in TX in general. I love the idea of the retractable screen door.

Love my artificial turf! I still need to get silica sand to fill it in. I need it to cool it off and keep it from flying up! The smell of off gas is the only thing that bugs me when it gets too hot.

Can you explain to me the Feng Shui of your front walkway? I thought Feng Shui liked curves so chi doesn't rush too quickly. Your path is straight head on to your door.... This came out beautiful! My vote was for that color too just because you kinda to not wanna pick it, i feel that! Hahah ❤❤

Okay, hear this: I've got a home that I'm about to renovate. Its a single story building with the front door and the living room window facing the same side. The side walls are red brick, the center between the front door and window is yellow Brick with a green flat surface beam on top. What would you do to make it more visually appealing? I'm kinda going for the mid century transitional style here. Towards rust brown and black or dark grey for example. Kinda modern brown English pub style. What would you paint it with? What would you do to get rid of the yellow brick other than breaking it down?

Paint the yellow off-white, green beam goes brown, front door gets a dark stain, keep exposed red brick on sides 👏🏻

I'll probably give it a once over later. Would you just paint the red brick or cover it with vinyl for example?
