Without critique, an artist can’t grow. So...very respectfully.... I greeted this channel with enthusiasm when it appeared in my recommended feed today. Sadly, after watching four videos, my original excitement disappeared. Yes, both the video quality and woodworking are astounding ; but the videography overwhelms the woodworking. It’s like baking the perfect chocolate cake, than covering it with five inches of frosting. The fact that the frosting is delicious, doesn’t overrule the result being: most of the frosting is left uneaten on the plate. Or in the case of these videos; leaving the viewer VERY frustrated. And, just another video added to the internet. A GREAT video would present both great woodworking and great videography. Specifically: On the plus side - Special-Works presents a wonderful variety of fun, beautiful, creative projects. On the negative side - the OVERUSE of closeups, harsh angles, mood lighting, slow motion, and other unoriginal techniques; result in tired videos. Additionally: if your main focus/purpose/reason for making videos is videography; and not the subject project....I’m afraid your videos fail. Again I’ll use my cake analogy. Baking a fabulously beautiful cake is immaterial if the cake tastes like poop. And, Videos that do not enhance the subject of the video, also leave a bad taste. Special-Works, it’s obvious you have the talent to create award winning videos. So please, please! take the critiques offered by myself, and others, to heart. Challenge yourself to create the perfect “chocolate cake” (without 5” of frosting).

Thank you so much! that's the way it is, that's what you think and what you'd like to do the most. I have another 60,000 subscribers next to you. that means 60,000 opinions! one wants slow motion, one wants to film in the dark, the other bright, he wants the other sugar without sugar.that you understand me I do not judge me by the spectators what they want. I do what I like because it is finally my channel and my sweat until I have created something. since youtube does not force you to watch the videos, anyone is not allowed to watch the video if it does not suit the one. but thank you very much for making the effort to help me. I think to myself to see how easy it is, I would suggest that you learn from my mistakes and even make such videos.

Special-Works Thank you for replying to my critique. I am a successful portrait artist and I did try making my own channel. I was surprised how difficult filming and editing is. After making 15 videos I stoped because I didn’t enjoy making videos and....well...because my videos are terrible. Which is why I am so impressed with your channel and why I wrote my critique. As I said before, without critique an artist can not grow. But at the same time, an artist must remain true to themselves and their style. So I completely understand your response. Best wishes.

@@MrNathanel Ich bin mein eigener Kopf.

As a long time dedicated viewer I am giving you the respect to tell you why I am leaving and unsubscribe today. As a film-making or editing enthusiast your videos have become nothing less than stunning and stellar. But I am not film-maker or editing enthusiast. I am a woodworker. And I can not see any value in a video like this from a woodworking point of view. Good luck.
@SpecialWorks5 жыл бұрын
Many Thanks. That you have correctly recognized, I do not do any tutorials I just filmed my work. It is not a construction manual.
@RossNanfito5 жыл бұрын
@@SpecialWorks A woodworking video does not need to in any way resemble a tutorial or instruction manual. I do not look for a manual. I am a well versed and very experienced woodworker who makes a living at it. I can make my own observations when I see the type of saw used, when I see the sled or jig used on a table saw, or when I see the hand technique etc. And you do good work, I would like to see it. But I can't see any of that in a low lighted mood video. Again, I respect what you are doing and would never ask you to change. You do what inspires you and that is very good, it simply is not for me. I am certain you will have many more fans to come.
