That looks like a blast! I feel like i couldn't do this with getting caught behind slow people, then some jerk is behind you revving the piss out of his 2 stroke for you get out of his way... seemed like the one dude almost knocked you over a small cliff. That is a Sweet XR!!! Awesome footage!

Thanks! It was really fun while it lasted. I appreciate the rev behind me vs the bike check lol. Those guys were chasing points and I get the aggression so I gladly let them past when I can move over. They really should have run the XRs with the vintage bikes in the heats prior to this one I think.

That 200 got beat up a little on the motocross track but held it's own in the woods. Hare Scrambles are just like I remembered. Race a little then yard sale, race a little more than stop for another yard sale.
@Garage2Trail5 ай бұрын
Yeah she did…I realized it could probably use a freshened up top end when it was getting pulled in the straights by other XRs easily. Once I hit the woods I felt much more comfortable on it. Would have been nice to get one lap in though lol

1984 XR500R in my building. The XR series have always been good bikes in my opinion but im becoming an old man now so my opinion maybe from better days of my youth.
@Garage2Trail5 ай бұрын
They are still great bikes…sometimes older technology is what you want. Bulletproof and easy to work on. I’m the case of this failure, the previous owners lack of maintenance finally caught up to it.

"It was boogered up before" exactly, fair play for admitting that, I was wondering how the log could've caused it. a bent shift shaft yes but not up there at the sprocket. I hope you do this event on the PE next year.
@Garage2Trail4 ай бұрын
Yeah I was hoping it would be a non issue because input it through a bit of a torture test on my trails for a couple weeks before mid Ohio. I guess there is nothing like race pace! I’ve been thinking on trying to do races on both of the classes are spread out enough

The 2 CR’s that blast past you around the 1:40 mark. You two dudes got smoked by an XR 200 at the start. You should be embarrassed! Then to pass the little XR like you are in contention for a trophy! Ha ha. Good on the little XR and its pilot!

Lol thanks! The XR started to shine in the woods. Just wish I could have had a full lap in lol. Those guys on the modern bikes were chasing points…just don’t understand why they ran them with XR200s 😂

That was Chris Gates on the CR125, he started a row behind these guys and ran down most of the guys in the front row! He's competitive at the national level...

Getting hard to find a shaft with a good spline the 86-2003 is a bit longer so the sprocket is 6mm further out for the wider frame. I have spacers between the mounting washer a sprocket to move it inward on mine. Different gears on the later motor and you have to grind the cases to fit and you should find a sprocket with wider at the spline, will make them last longer.

I'm not much of a racer myself. But I think it would be cool if there was someone there for the fun of it with a large cc bike setup for just towing out break-downs. I bet helping tow racers out of the woods could be fun on its' own for the right person. :)
@Garage2Trail5 ай бұрын
They did have a couple people that were going in and out of the woods just for that. The first guy on the KTM had pulled 3 or 4 guys out before me. The younger guy on the Yamaha just happened to see me coming out of the track on the main road and offered to help. Super cool of them.

@Garage2Trail5 ай бұрын
Honestly I don’t know for sure…I saw there was an XR200 class this year and I just said “what the heck, I’ll give it a try” there are a bunch of different classes for the vintage classes though.

@@Garage2Trail you need a atc200x but the 83-84 with the similar early xr200 style engine. They're cool with the forward kick starter. The later ones were 4 valves.

@JyveKilla the other problem I’d have is all of my trails would probably kill me if I took a trike on them lol…lots of off camber stuff.

The 200 did well in the tight stuff. I think the suspension on them was pretty soft? Especially if you weigh over 70kg

Yes, it’s sprung VERY soft. That’s why I felt so out of sorts on that motocross track when I’d hit jumps lol

👀Was that a Yamaha RX50❓Last time I was at VMD in 08’ a whole “gang” of them camped near us and they were from Pennsylvania I believe. Hilarious. We couldn’t give those away BITD at the Yamaha/Honda dealer I worked at.

Would this be a good first race? I live 3 1/2 hours away and am familiar with the venue. I'm hesitant because I feel good riders come out for MidOhio and I don't want to be in peoples way. Right before the counter shaft went, I thought you were gonna end up going over to the left. Fairly aggressive riding.
@Garage2Trail22 күн бұрын
I think so. The XR200 class wasn’t for points but they had us running at the same time as modern bikes that were fighting for points for some reason. Most people are cool and just give a rev behind you if they are looking to pass and I just move over. Just a few times I ran into some aggressive riders in the tight spots. Other vintage classes had strictly vintage bikes all running at the same time though. I wouldn’t worry about being in people’s way.

I can be the king of oversimplification.....but motocross is to track and field what harescramble is to cross country running? I've often wondered what a harescramble is. This looks like a whale of a good time.
@Garage2Trail5 ай бұрын
I guess that would be a good assumption…I think harescrambles can be more explained as racing in the woods with just a couple spots that have spots with motocross elements in there. Guess it depends on the track really. It’s a blast regardless and the first one I’ve done in a long time!
