MID-WEEK MADNESS! 2000 Alfa Romeo 146 2.0 Ti Twin-Spark 16V - What Have I DONE?! | EvoMalaysia.com

(Enable closed captions) WELL hello there! So, this happened recently. I'd spotted this beautiful AR 146 Ti 2.0 16V on Mudah (a VERY dangerous place for car freaks like me) and decided to go have a look see. Bad idea...
Remember what I said in my previous Alfetta video about NOT test driving an Alfa Romeo (any AR applies) if you have no intention to buy it? Well, in this instance, if the car was in decent condition, I would have definitely considered it, so I went to view it with an open mind. Ok, that's BS... when it comes to ARs, it's more than 50:50 insofar as buy-no-buy is concerned with me, I love them as u know!
Well, fat chance of not buying it, cos when I saw the condition it was in, I'd pretty much made up my mind even before the test drive. One turn around the block was all it took. In my mind the car was mine even before I'd reached back to the seller's house. I had to have it. You see, of the 8 (yes, EIGHT, including the current Alfetta) AR's I've had in the past, I've never owned anything from the "14" series (I've had three from the "15" series, the 155; two with this engine, and one 1.8L 8V like Thomas'), and this was a Ti, the one that instead of using the regular 146 1.6L engine, uses the 2.0L 16V DOHC Twin-spark lump from the aforementioned 155, but in a smaller, hatchback body.
To my surprise, for once the car actually looked much better IRL than in photos, and I sealed the deal right away upon getting back from the very short test drive. Coincidentally, the company that I bought it from (SHWong Enterprise) are now handling the sale of my Kia Picanto & Proton Saga (see my Community Section), so yeah, you could say I traded 2 cars for 1. I'm absolutely thrilled about getting is 146, my 9th Alfa Romeo, and new stable-mate to my Alfetta & Fiat Punto. I now have THREE Italians in Weevil Garage (Alfetta, 146 & Fiat Punto), in addition to a German and Swede, God help me, LOL! :P
This is gonna be a lot of fun folks, so stay tuned! I still have to pinch myself occasionally, just to make sure I'm not dreaming. Oh yeah, timeline wise, this purchase happened right after my buddy Baldwin bought a beautiful AR 159, and just before Thomas epically bought TWO Alfa Romeo's in 2hrs. Seriously can't wait to bring this 146 out to meet all of them, woohoo!! Wish me luck folks, I'm gonna need it, hahaha! Let the fun begin!! :P

Can't speak for the rest, but I love the 156, it looks amazing, but I totally despise the (problematic) Selespeed gearbox, it's a total letdown to an otherwise brilliant car, I'd buy a properly done manual conversion 156 over ori, that's how much I don't like that gearbox🤭

The 159s looks so nice...was surprised when friend told once tht he is getting a brand new 159 sometime back as was thinking why he is buying a car tht hv no resale value but over time realised tht it's all abt driving experience rather than RV.... The car is apparently in a very good shape and will most likely be a blessing to run, however, it's certainly not an original but rather a custom-built piece. Exterior is post '99 FL while the dashboard is from 95 - 97 era (old AC, door vents etc.) when there was the CF1 variant of the Twin Spark engine installed (with the alloy cam cover) - and here, it's the newer CF2 with plastic cover. Also, not an original TI as these have the instrument panel distinguished with details of speedo and rev counter in red color. Or it is an original TI with a new engine, instrument cluster and bodywork :D Enjoy, though!

Yeah..get to know his family inside out etc. Owning big bro F also means sending your mechanic's kids to college! Then again, thise were the Weber/Solex and contact point days. Starting with the 164 series, they've been quite reliable though the secret is to actually drive 'em and rack mileage. Doing mileage means regular oil changes and that's where you/mechanic may catch a problem before it becomes an issue. Same reason also lah why a 911 is more reliable than the Ferraris/Lambos.

The single storey house? It used to be an old folks home. I used to hang around there with my childhood buddies. I feel like it's been sold because someone's maintaining it after shutting down the old folks home. Sometimes I would notice cars parked on the driveway
