Look at you being early with this tag!! I feel you on having a bit of a 5-star drought this year, hopefully we both find some gems in the second half of the year. I really need to get back into Dark Tower! And totally agree on Just for the Summer, Abby Jimenez is just so good! I think my favourite read of the year so far is The Storm Beneath the World by Michael R. Fletcher, but I also adored A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams (opposite ends of the spectrum lol). Eye of the Bedlam Bride lets GOOOOOOOOOOOO love getting hype for the Dark Tower and the ending in particular, it makes picking up the series even more appealing for me!

Shallan is the reason I gave up on The Stormlight Archive in the middle of Oathbringer. With Book 5 on the horizon, I decided to start from the beginning and refresh my memory on the first two books and then get caught up. This time I gave up early in Word of Radiance because she's the focal point of the book and I just couldn't take any more of her. I found myself skimming her chapters in Way of Kings. I really enjoyed the Bridge 4 scenes, even though I don't remember liking them the first time I read it. I may try to get back on track with it and just skim Shallan's chapters again. It's all the fruitless conversations about philosophy and eye-rolling attempts at humor. I do recall her having more interesting things going on in Words of Radiance later in the book. I felt like Sanderson didn't have anything important for her to do in Oathbringer, so he set her on this pointless investigation. I like Sandersons shorter works because I feel like you get just as much plot and less dithering. So much of Stormlight Archive seems like he's just trying to write super long books even though the plot may not warrant that many pages. Just makes for a lot of boring scenes. Although his endings are always fantastic. That's the main thing that brings me back to his books.

I don’t blame you! I will say, I am almost done with my Words of Radiance reread, and I do find her less obnoxious in this one. I do remember getting board of her parts of Oathbringer though, so not looking forward to that. 😂 Ultimately, I think it’s definitely worth pushing through and skimming her bits to get the rest of the awesome story, though!
