Cheap, easy bread! No oven No yeast No knead No rise Since we can't post links, do a YT search for 'skillet bread' (skip over the ones that use yeast). For the ultra-simple 2 ingredient bread that calls for self-rising flour, just use the cheapest flour you can find and add your own baking soda and salt. Tip: I no longer shop shelf price, rather price per ounce only, which dramatically lowered my grocery bill! The cheapest thing in the grocery store, price per ounce, is flour. (What may be bothering PP's digestive system is the yeast, not the flour.) This has 2-4 ingredients. Either bake in a skillet or a slow cooker - comes out delicious! It's so easy I make one serving at a time, so I've always got fresh baked bread. PS The 2nd cheapest thing in the grocery store is rice. We are not talking pallet preferences here; we're talking surviving on limited funds. This will stretch all your meals. Changed my whole life for the better. Hope this helps someone. 💓

Yes! I go to our local food pantry. Worked for 57 years and paid into all that kind of stuff all along, plus other charities on my own. It has been a wonderful blessing for me! Two neighborhood dogs came to me - one was abandoned and the other's owner in jail. I feel fortunate to be able to care for them and myself in my old age! 🥰

It took me a long time to get out of debt. I maxed out both credit cards as I used them to pay bills and buy very few groceries. I utilized the local food pantry once a month if I couldn't afford buying groceries. I ended using coins to put $5 in gas for my car. My second to my last job hardly covered hardly anything. I knew i had to make drastic changes. I am happy with what I have accomplished, but in doing so I ended up putting my childhood home up for sale and moving into a 1 bedroom apartment. What a big change, but I adapted. I make sure my bills are paid first and foremost before I do any spending.

Saurkraut is easy to make. I'd like an insulated cold room to keep potatoes and fruits until I can preserve them. You use an ordinary window AC and trick the sensor to shutoff at 40 F. You can make sausage from a whole hog or deer inside the cold room. In rural areas the u-pick orchards have good prices on fruit, but you must immediately freeze , can or preserve unless you have a cold room.

We increased our budget. We both have medical specific diets. Some ways we save are Costco's roasted chickens. We had a requested gift card that we reimbursed purchaser for. We also buy hams, turkeys, and briskets on sale around holiday sales. When there is no healthy bread at the $Tree, we go to a discout bakery. We shop discount or clearance, seasonal and regrow some produce. We forge and barter a little. Leftovers are makeovers - soups, tortilla sandwiches, etc.

Have you considered pressure canning? You can do it when you get meat on sale for you and the doggies. You could also pressure can fruit juices etc if you wanted to? Or water bath can jam etc? I totally understand if you don't want to do the work or don't like pressure canned items. You also don't need crazy amounts. Because you have solar you might want to get a mini freezer new on sale or used just to make your life easier with your seasonal fruit, veggies and meat. But you are doing amazingly well! I cook my turkeys right way and take it off the bone and package it up in 3 days worth of servings with some of the broth on it. Then I cook the bones for broth and can it. If you cook the breast down in a roaster and have 2 inches of water in the pan you get good broth to put in your bags. I just use salt, pepper and poultry seasoning in the broth that I store so it works for any recipe.

I would strongly encourage you to change your oil every 3000 miles instead of every 5000 miles. Vehicle is getting older. Regardless of the low miles. I would also suggest you save up your money for a timing chain replacement. Hondas and Toyotas are known to break the timing chain , which breaks the engine at 100,000 miles. My daughter and several friends have experienced this.

It's great you can grow your own food and have access to fresh fruit and veggies. I live in a 1-room storage unit above a mini-mart in a big city and there's no nature close by. No room for a chest freezer either. I can only go to the grocery during the day because we had 2 shooting deaths on my street last week so it's not safe to be out after dark. But I don't own a car so my transit costs are minimal, and I get by on $100 month for food. I can afford more but I'm saving every dollar so I can move abroad.

It is way easjer for a one adult household to decide how to spend, how to save and how to be frugal. When two adults are trying to improve their financial situation, it is much more challenging to hammer out compromises and reach agreements. Add children or teens to the household with their strong desires for expensive or unnecessary purchases and household tensions can rise.

We usually have to fill up only 1 time a month but a lot of the times we can go 2 months before filling up! We just got 5 pound bags of gold potatoes at Walmart for $1.50 a bag. I just watched a video on dry canning potatoes on Homesteading with the Zimmermans. You just wash the potatoes, dry, cut off bad parts and slice into chunks. Put in bowl add some melted butter and seasonings. Put into your mason jars raw. Then you can them. This way I can put away what I grow and also buy in bulk when they are in season to have all year!

My husband, myself, 3 dogs, a cat, and 12 chickens. Groceries are kicking my butt. I shop discounted meats and toss them in the freezer. Always checking the clearances for something we use. And each month I try and buy a little extra for an emergency. If I see beans on sale, or a huge bag of rice. You are an inspiration. Would love to understand how you feed those two dogs so cheaply. My monthly animals feed is scarey expensive. $30 a month for the chickens right now. And unfortunately I can't let them free range because of the high predator pressure. 🤔.

I have a 2005 white Altima with 118,000 miles. It was so perfect and people would give me compliments. Over a year ago a huge truck hit the side of my car😢. I'm 73 and it was like hurting my best friend 😢😢😢.

I buy 25 pounds of corn beef in March and can or freeze the roasts. This will last a year and we eat corn beef at least once a month for a week at a time. This year I spent about $120 but for a year that seems pretty responsible to me. Also, I volunteer at the food bank and am given a huge turkey at Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. I cooked them so one fits on my deep freezer in vacuumed sealed bags and I canned the remaining meat for making pot pies and made some soups. In June we had turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce and it was delicious.

Thank for keeping us all motivated!! Btw how much meat do you give from your daily meat? Put another way, if you have 4 oz of meat per day, how much of that do they get? Thanks so much!

I take sweet potatoes and slice them, then dehydrate to make dog treats- a 3 month supply of dog treats ends up being about $4- when I start growing them- it will be zero!

Let them laugh....they are the mindless ones that rack up their bills for nothing. I always paid cash for my cars...Cars are expensive. $300-500 for a car payment is ridiculous per month times however many years you owe plus interest. People are so judgmental. If you can live without all the bells and whistles there is less to break down. We live in an I WANT world where people think in their head that certain stuff is a necessity because they are accustom to a certain way.

I drive a 98 chevy venture minivan. 60k on a rebuilt engine and 135k on the van itself. I don't drive much (retired). I took all the seats out of the back so as to free up space to haul my own trash, instead of trash service, and room for hauling anything else. Saves on mileage, too, less weight.

I thought of you when I saw this recipe for whipped cream. It's on the Small Town Southern Wife page. You combine milk and butter, then that makes whipped cream. To make it half and half, you would just add equal part regular milk. It might make your habit cheaper:-)
