I love the recap ... looking through your journal after a while is so satisfying. Especially for me who reads a lot. I do not have the room for decorating a lot, so watching yours is so satisfying. 😍

I recommend Doppelganger by Naomi Klein for Social Science- it's a good Audiobook too! and Laziness Does Not Exist by Devon Price for self help that is not icky

Seconding any Devon Price book!

Love your reading journal! You had inspired me to create one of my own. Though, I am more minimalist in my approach. Your ability to collage is enviable. For the social science…Jonathan Haidt is on my TBR. His book is called The Anxious Generation. Saw him interviewed and it sounds fascinating.

It was a lot of fun watching you set up the new books read and tbr pages and seeing the old bookpages you used for decoration with Finnish text. 😄I enjoy seeing all the different languages you have accumulated book pages of in your reading journal setups.

Heda: You are so talented! I love your artwork and I especially like the fact that you include women of all races and skin tones! Great job on your TBR and Recommendations pages.

For self-help, I would recommend 'Every Day A Good Day' by Noriko Morishita. It centres around the tea ceremony, so the self-help part is not so 'in your face'. There is also a movie about it that is a visual delight. In the thriller category an oldie 'The Wrong Man' by John Katzenbach 😉

Love it, Hedda! My fav recent historical fiction is Pachinko, a generational story about a Korean family during the Korea/Japan war. Really good!

Pachinko is so good!! I read it a couple of years ago, and I loved it! I actually started watching the tv show this week, wondering if it could live up to the book. We’ll see!😌

My husband's favorite author is Philip K. Dick and he read Man in the High Castle about 15 years ago and loved it so so so much. He speaks highly of so many of his books but I have yet to read any!!

The Maisie Dobbs series for mystery are my favorite. They’re set in WWI and work their way upward. There are 18, but start with one and see how you like it 😂 I love the character development in the series. I also really enjoy the series that starts with Arsenic and Adobo, which is a modern mystery series that is centered around restaurants and food. I really enjoy the cultural aspects of the series. The audiobooks for both are fab.

For historical fiction ANYTHING by Fiona Davis. The settings of her books are new york city landmarks. My personal favorite was The Lions of 5th Ave or the Masterpiece which takes place at Grand Central Station.

Love your video as always. Whenever I see a new video I run, not walk to watch your videos! In terms of books that are History I have a few that you might like. “Killers of the Flower Moon,” written by David Graham is an amazing book, it won lots of awards and was eventually made into a movie, but the book is better. The book is narrative nonfiction but reads like fiction. There are other narrative nonfiction books that I have read but that is the only one I can remember at the moment. I will check back in with more. Thank you for a great video!❤❤❤

Thank you so much, Luke! I really appreciate it. I didn’t know Killers of the Flower Moon was narrative nonfiction! I watched the movie when it came out, and it was so sad and disturbing. Knowing it’s a real story makes it so much worse. I’m sure the book is better than the movie (they usually are!), so I will add it to my list!

For horror, I suggest Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, especially the audiobook version. It's nonsense at certain points but nicely creepy at many others, and the audiobook narrator just did a freaking fantastic work. As a thriller, I'd mention Murder Road by Simone St. James - it could be considered as horror based on a few scenes, but as an avid horror reader, I'd say it's more of a murder mystery thiller than an actual horror. For historical fiction, I recommend Amy Harmon's works; she has several titles in the genre. I don't read much non-fiction and I'm not sure what you consider a history book but I loved Chernobyl Prayer: Voices from Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich. It broke my heart and soul but I couldn't put it down. Chernobyl 01:23:40 by Andrew Leatherbarrow is also great on the same topic, and it's less heavy, emotionally.

Thriller - Murder in the family by Cara Hunter. This reads like a TV script as the case is being solved by professionals for a TV show. And we get to see the reviews after the show from fans as well as emails and such "behind the scenes" after each episodes as well. Such a good read! Self Help - I want to Die but I want to eat tteobokki by Baek Sehee. We get to see the conversations the author has with her therapist and delves into what happens in each session and her thoughts about each session as well. Historical Fiction - The Theatre of Glass and Shadows by Anne Corlett. A wonderful tale of someone trying to find a place where she belongs after the death of her father amd where she originally came from. It came out this year and it was such an amazing read. Here are some recs. And I loved your journal so much!! So much inspiration for my own reading journal.

if you have any interest in american history, I really loved At The Dark End of the Street by Danielle McGuire and Women of the Klan by Kathleen M. Blee. They are both about horrific parts of our history, so they aren’t uplifting or anything, but I found them fascinating because there’s so much we don’t know about the roles of women during the civil rights movements movement and in the early rise of the ĶĶĶ. Some of it is honestly kind of terrifying. If you want a short history book, On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder is fantastic. I do NOT annotate books for pleasure, but this little book has so many page flags and highflying and margin commentary. And, if you’d like an amazing historical graphic novel, I highly recommend the main textbook I use to teach my LGBT 101 courses, which is Queer: A Graphic History by MJ Barker and Jules Scheele.
