"A lot of it is above my head, but above my head is a place I like to be." What a great comment, and I completely relate to this sentiment. I love being pushed out of my comfort zone by great fiction, and it does sounds like Egan does just that. I should really read some of his stuff!

Thanks max. I liked it too because I feel like I stumbled into one of the main reasons I enjoy his work. Somethings are over my head and it doesn't work for me, but when Egan is over my head, I feel it's still in reach and am trusting the process

Another great one, Michael, Thank you! You've given me the itch to get into Greg Egan - simply by putting him in the company of LeGuin, Bradbury and Delany. I'm a recent fanatical convert to Delany (want to be back in My Bologna!), so your enthusiasm for Egan is a good motivation to find another new author. Keep those tunes coming too!

Michael, I liked the way you delivered this video. I sounded much more off the cuff and it felt more personal. Your videos are so well produced including music and interviews. You obviously put a great amount of time and effort into them but there is a lot to be said for the feel of two friends just discussing books. I hope you do some more in this style.

Another great video, Mike! I love your recap of the songs that you wrote. Also really appreciated what you said about reading the Egan books - kind of just knowing that you may or may not get all the science. For me the experience of a great read is when the story is strong enough to bring me along even if I don't understand all the things. Finishing up The Final Architecture trilogy now.

How DO you do all this, Michael?!?! You read so many books and produce so many enjoyable programs! AND you are a family man AND an owner/operator of your own business! And you seem so, like, stress free and relaxed. Years ago I taught myself the Cyrillic alphabet and it finally dawned on me that your tee shirt is the Russian word for "Solaris" or "Sol yar iss." I love the Murderbot series and Matha Wells' characterization of its inner dialogue. I have read a couple of G. Egan's books, but can't warm up to his style, but your reviews encourage to read a couple more. Keep up the great videos!

@@FIT2BREAD Schismatrix was cool, I'm a Bruce Sterling fan. I read 'The Glass Bead Game' in Jr High - found it dull ... perhaps I was to young to appreciate it. I haven't read any Greg Egan, but I have 'Permutation City' on my kindle. Perhaps I'll give it a whirl when I finish my current book(s).

@Mike have you done a read lately of 'Lords of Light' it's fantastic transhumanism written in 1967 [iirc] when transhumanism was not really a thing. Its a frequent reread of mine and wanted to share my love of it.

@@FIT2BREADI respect that. I'll add that If you read it through the lense of transhumanism there is no fantasy elements - I feel like people think it will be more fantasy due to Amber.
