I canceled my pre-order. It's just a box with an image glued on it and inside just regular 4K boxes for each films. I don't think it can be called Ultimate Collector Edition. And there is not the bonuses of the previous versions

Kvasir's Blood - I have all six of them. 3 x dvd + figure / statue sets of the LOTR Trilogy, and also 3 x Blu ray + figure / statue sets of the Hobbit Trilogy. In my opinion they are really cool editions.

To be frank I am extremely disappointed with this set. The back of the jay card made it seem as though you would be able to reorganize the individual movies themselves in the pictures but it was just printed on! I am also disappointed in the lack of special features.

I'll confess this set looks great, and better than Star Wars. The main reason is because you're getting the exact SAME content,discwise, as before. Same EXACT product with go faster stripes. That, I believe, is the reason for all the bells and whistles. With Star Wars you get actual new content on discs.

Yes I do wish this had all the old special features and appendices remastered but I have never owned lord of the rings and I wanted the newest 4K versions of the films. If you want the appendices you’ll have to purchase older version of the films, I don’t think this set is worth it if you already own them. You can save $30 on Amazon by purchasing the 4k trilogies separately. Here’s the catch, this trilogy includes 1 disc of new bonus content you can’t buy separately. If you really wanted to you could purchase a older set of films for the appendices.

I was wondering what was inside, they didn't show in the promos. Guess it's because they're simple amarays, not digipacks. You didn't try to separate the 4 boxes, they're supposed to be displayed in various configurations, and must have art on the inner sides. Probably magnetically attached.

I got the 4ks when they came out I was put off by the fact Blu-ray hadn’t any features and only one bonus disc so I’ll pass. It’s actually more like Columbia classics than Star Wars Skywalker saga as it had the pockets and they were like a book.

It’s a shame they didn’t do a 4K variant of the collectors set that came out on Blu-ray, that was awesome but at least the price was right there assuming you’re a fan of the movies to begin with (obviously). If we want to talk about the Star Wars Skywalker saga box set, the one from Japan is vastly superior to the one we got in the UK and the ones that were made available in the US and Australia.

I got the 4K extended and theatrical set when it came out last year so between those two sets I’m good. Don’t need anything else unless they put out new deleted scenes or something…

The Star Wars 4K set is much much better value for money purely based on the fact it has an absolute shit load of bonus content as well as the 9 films, to pay £200 for a lord of the rings set that contains bonus content that nobody really ever wanted over all the original bonus features as well as the appendices is not good, if they had finally put all the bonus features in one place people have wanted for such a long time this would have really been an ultimate set and fans would have gone nuts over it. If you’re interested in these films for purely 4K reasons there’s no other place to look than the trilogy box sets that got released last year, they’re on Amazon for £135 for both now

Appreciate the unboxing. Not sure if the ring comes with the US set. But it doesn't seem worth upgrading to me and they still didn't include the special features from the blurays. I will stick with my steelbook sets. I could see this being a good way to upgrade if someone had not upgraded from dvd to bluray though.

What i'd like to know is is if the 4k disc are different compared to the previous released ones. I know this "Middle Earth Collection" contains all the extra's that were missing on the 4k discs. But are they actually on the 4k disc this time? Or do they mean that the extra's are on the also included 1080P Blu-ray discs? Mainly i would like to know if the audio commentaries are on the 4k discs.

The 4K discs are the exact same in both sets: 15 of the 31 discs came out last year: 9 4Ks for LotR, and 6 4Ks for The Hobbit. Also, there's only ONE disc of extra, which totals up to about 95 min.

I've just purchased this set at £143 from Zavvi so you were ripped off. I've put small velcro dots on the j card bottom and got rid of the glue. Ive also done it to my Jurassic park and Mad Max steelbook sets.

For 4K: last year's 4K set. No extras, but nowhere nearly as expensive or as bloated.

If you are new and never owned on dvd then a 4k set is a good point to jump in. You wont have the special features of the blu rays with either 4k set. That said this set is cardboard and if your going to pay extra for packaging? You might as well get the steelbook sets if you can. They each come with theatrical and extended editions for each film. So while you may not get special features your getting some gorgeous steelbooks. Just be cautious as bestbuy can ship you a damaged set. Dings, dents and such are a bit common with these steelbook sets. I had to return my lotr set for a replacement. Another point worth considering is whether the ultimate set comes with digital codes. I know the Steelbook sets do. So you can keep the discs in good shape.

Don't know which set you're asking about, but even without UHD discs, there's plenty per film to put in a box set. There's 8 discs per LOTR movie, and 5 per Hobbit. If this set was to be truly "Ultimate", there would also be: Three bonus Blu-rays for EACH Hobbit film - theatrical version bonus BD and two 'Appendices' bonus BDs each = 9 bonus discs. For LOTR the extra discs were all DVDs, so I don't know how many they'd fit on one BD, probably all 4, surely on UHD, but there were 4 for each film, 2 Appendices, 1 theatrical bonus DVD, and 1 Costa Botes docs. They don't like makingnew masters, so kerp putting existing DVDs everywhere. Anyway it's 12 more. 51 disc with UHDs would be 'Ultimate', for someone not having any of the previous releases. As I do, I don't mind.
